We’re proud to share this look back at an important weekend for Harrison and our community.
For 15 years, the City of Harrison, Arkansas has built a meaningful partnership with the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and Executive Director Dr. DuShun Scarbrough — one rooted in open dialogue, understanding, and a shared commitment to moving communities forward.
We’re also grateful for the Harrison Community Task Force on Race Relations, which has spent more than 20 years doing the important work of building relationships, encouraging understanding, and helping our community address difficult issues and perceptions.
And we are especially grateful for Mayor Jerry Jackson and his willingness throughout his service to address Harrison’s reputation head-on. Rather than shy away from difficult conversations, Mayor Jackson has consistently worked to tell Harrison’s story honestly, build relationships beyond our community, and invite others to come experience Harrison for themselves.
As Mayor Jackson prepares to conclude his service as Mayor at the end of this year, we congratulate him and the City of Harrison on receiving the 2026 AMLKC Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Torch of Nonviolence Award. It is a meaningful recognition of work that has taken years, many conversations, and the commitment of many people.
