(8/1/25) Today, Fire/Rescue members attended day 1 a large animal rescue class at the station taught by Vicki Schmidt. Members of area departments, Cumberland County Animal Rescue Team, Harrison ACO, and local horse owners attended as well. Tripp Crest Farm and Western Maine Firefighters Association sponsored the class. Students learned about the tools and ways to rescue large animals.

On 7/21/25 at approximately 0330 hours, fire/resxue was dispatched to 896 Edes Falls Road for a reported structure fire. Upon his arrival Chief 801 found a fully involved single wide mobile home on fire. The owner reported that no one was in the house at the time of the fire and two pet cats had gotten out ok. Crews worked the fire for a little over 3 hours. The cause of the fire is undetermined but under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s office. Due to lack of manpower and water sources at that end of town a second alarm was struck. We would like to thank the Bridgton, Naples, Casco, Raymond, Norway, Otisfield, Sebago, Sweden and Waterford fire departments as well as United and CMP for their assistance.

We are saddened to learn of Lt. Adler’s passing. He was a fixture in the Oxford Hills Fire Service and he will be missed.

It is with deep sadness that the Otisfield Fire Department announces the passing of longtime firefighter Lenny Adler.

Lenny was a dedicated member of the Otisfield Fire Department for an incredible 60 years, beginning his service in 1965. Over the decades, he held many leadership roles — serving as Chief from 1982 to 1984, and later as Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, and most recently as Lieutenant.

Lenny was truly the heart and soul of the Spurr’s Corner station. His love for the Otisfield community was unmatched, and his commitment extended to all of our mutual aid partners. If the Otisfield Tank Truck was requested, it was often Lenny behind the wheel — already en route before the tones even dropped, thanks to his ever-listening scanner and deep knowledge of local operations.

He was known for his quick wit during trainings, his fondness for the candy dish, and most of all, the mentorship, knowledge, and camaraderie he so generously shared with everyone around him.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of someone we looked up to, learned from, and deeply respected. The station will never be the same without him.

Godspeed, Lenny.
“We’ve got it from here.”

Several incidents over the past few years have prompted the Harrison Fire/Rescue to host a large animal rescue class this spring (date and time TBD). We are also looking for donations towards equipment necessary to properly rescue these animals. We are grateful for the communities support.
