CRAWFORD/SIOUX COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL

For those of you who may not know me, I am Andrew Wendland and I will be the 2026-27 Head Boys Basketball Coach at Crawford/Sioux County. I am incredibly excited for this opportunity to coach the kids of these communities and see them improve throughout the summer and winter seasons.

Our first open gym will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 7:00 PM in Crawford. Open gyms will alternate every Wednesday between Crawford’s gym and Sioux County’s gym throughout the summer.

These open gyms are an important part of our preparation for next season and are strongly recommended for all players, although attendance is not required.

Students (Boys/Girls) in grades 7–12 from both schools are welcome to attend.
It is especially important to attend the first open gym on June 3rd, as we will be taking a headcount and discussing camp plans and the camp itinerary.

CAMP DATES:
June 27/28 @ Chadron State College

Congratulations to Sioux County Schools Grace Holmgren on a great finish at the State Middle School Track Meet.

From Chadron radio:

Area Athletes Compete at State Middle School Track Meet

A handful of student athletes made the trip to Gothenburg Saturday for the Nebraska Middle School State Track and Field Meet.

“The highlight for the northern panhandle came when eighth grader Grace Holmgren, running for Sioux County came home in fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:39.02. The top place finish on the boys side was a pair of fifth place medals with eighth grader Braxton Spicer out of Hay Springs getting fifth in the 200 and eighth grader out of Chadron Middle School Gabriel Scoggan getting fifth in discus.”

Feedback Sought. The SIoux County Schools Board of Education has had discussions regarding the decrease in student enrollment and have discussed ideas to try to increase enrollment. One of the ideas that surfaced is a four day school week. The board would like feedback from the public to see if there is support or oppostion of a four day school week. As this is an idea to increase student enrollment they are specifically wondering if the public feels this would draw more students to our district. They are also interested in knowing how current families feel about it. The “draft calendar” presented is for information only. In this draft version, the school day would be lengthened by 30 mins and there would be about 2 more weeks of school compared to the current five day school week calendar. Please take the time to complete a short survey and provide any other feedback.
