Our fall meeting schedule of monthly third Wednesdays will start on 20 September 2023, 11:00a.m., at the Wood Grill Buffet, 1711 Reservoir St, Harrisonburg. IF you have difficulty with the walk through the restaurant, there is an accessible door, along with ADA parallel parking on the side of the building (east side, opposite the main doors), near our private meeting room. KNOCK LOUDLY if you find the door locked; someone will hear and come to open it).

September's speaker will be Sherri Resturari (of Staunton), a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association of Central and Western Region of Virginia, who will speak on "Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia," as well as share information about their services.

INVITE your friends and family as they are welcome. Any who are prospective NARFE members (active and retired Federal employees, spouses, and widowed or former spouses) are welcome and they will be the Chapter's guests for a FREE first lunch. So, please seek out and invite those friends and neighbors, and folks you run across as you are out and about, who qualify -- to join us! For every member you help to join NARFE and our chapter, NARFE National will credit you $10 each, to support the September membership drive!

Also, please help us to reach out to those members who do not use technology -- and than a phone -- to receive information.

NARFE Harrisonburg VA Chapter 164 Due to rain, wind and low temperatures, we have decided it would be more enjoyable and wise for us to go indoors, and have arranged with the Bridgewater Rescue Squad, at 19 Volunteer Driver, Bridgewater, for us to use their multi-purpose room for our picnic. Sorry for the last minute change — and please help us get the word out. The address is 10 Volunteer Dr. Turn North off from Dinkel Ave (Dinkel goes through Bridgewater College) between Smiley Ice cream & 1st Baptist Russian church. We have had several picnics there in the past. This weather inconvenience brings much needed rain to the area...thus, is worth the change.

Hello, Chapter 164 Member/s!

We look forward to seeing you this coming Wednesday, 15 March, 2023, 11AM-1PM, at the Wood Grill Buffet, 1711 Reservoir St, Harrisonburg (Senior buffet rate of $11.99 + tax paid as we each exit the restaurant exit; beverages and wait staff tip are NOT included). Our special guest speaker will be local beekeeper Skip Wissinger (McGaheysville), retired federal employee, who will help us discover ways we can support the local bee population in time for Spring, an important community environmental pursuit. We will also be visited by VFN Membership Chair, Frances E. Boatman (Roanoke), traveling to us to share a few minutes of tips to help us find and invite new chapter members. Our friends and family are ALWAYS welcome to any meeting (and any who are prospective, eligible members will be the Chapter's guest for their first lunch meeting!).

NEW OPTION for Wood Grill: For those wishing a shorter walking distance to our dining room, there is a side door (east, towards University Blvd) that is available . There is a curb so it is not ADA. If you wish to use it, park by the door, and use your cellphone to CALL MISSY, 202-316-5127, who will come to open the door -- and she will "valet" your car to a parking spot (she is a good driver, promise), before and after our meeting.

REMINDER: Bring cash or checks to the meeting if you would like to participate in the monthly 50/50 raffle (to support the National Alzheimer's Association, or purchase raffle tickets for QUILT OR AFGHAN drawing -- for yourself OR to sell for $1.00 each chance -- for our Wednesday, 19 April 2023, ANNUAL AUCTION (at Traditions Family Restaurant), also to support Alzheimer's research.

Current and prospective members, join us on Wednesday, 21 December 2022, for our annual holiday lunch social. Held for the first time at the Flaming Grill Buffet, 125 S Carlton St, Harrisonburg, VA 22801, 11AM-1PM, we will gather in the private dining room (back left). Registration, social and lunch (Senior rate of $10.99 paid at departure; beverage and tip are additional). No business meeting nor special presentation in December. Bring a "white elephant" gift $5-10, wrapped, for a fun gift exchange game!

Prospective members are welcome, and your first meeting the Chapter will buy your lunch! Be our guest and be prepared to introduce yourself and tell us about your connection to a federal career. Active, or retired employees are eligible to join NARFE National ($40 annual dues, www.narfe.org), and our Chapter (local chapter dues are $10 annually), as are spouses, and former spouses.

If you are interested in a monthly social and educational gathering, and/or regular updates regarding the health and future of your federal retirement, NARFE is for you! Join us!

Chapter 164 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will gather in the private group dining room at Wood Grill Buffet on Wednesday, 16 November, 1711 Reservoir St, Harrisonburg, VA 11AM-1PM. Registration, social, and lunch first (Senior rate of $11.99 paid at departure; beverage and tip are additional). Our business meeting starts at 12noon (and concludes by 1PM).

Our November guest speaker will be a representative from VPAS (Valley Program for Aging Services) who will tell us about their new services and their volunteer needs.
