Today, Clerk of Circuit Court Chaz W. Haywood announced a new leadership structure within the Rockingham County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.

Congratulations to Chief Deputy of Courts Danielle Ritchie, Chief Deputy of Local Records Alena Almeida, Senior Deputy Clerk of the Civil Division Jessica Young, and Senior Deputy Clerk of the Land Records Division Kimberly Rush on their new appointments. We look forward to the continued work ahead in service to our community.

It has come to our attention, once again, that local individuals are receiving calls from someone pretending to be law enforcement stating that they owe a fine for missing jury duty and requesting payment of the fine over the phone, sometimes requesting gift cards.

OUR OFFICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT DO NOT CALL TO COLLECT ANY TYPE OF PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE, AND WE DEFINITELY DO NOT TAKE ANY TYPE OF GIFT CARD FOR PAYMENTS.

A lot of the time the number on the caller ID will be spoofed to look like it is coming from an actual number within the Clerk's Office or Sheriff's Office.

PLEASE ALERT FAMILY MEMBERS that are not on social media about the scams and how numbers can be spoofed so what you see on the caller ID isn't always where the call is actually coming from. If there is ever a question as to whether a call is real or not, hang up and call our office directly at 540-564-3390.

Molly Shank of Molly Suzanne Photography and Artwork gifted the Circuit Court Clerk's office with this beautiful piece.
Clerk Chaz stated, "I'm always excited to add to the collection in the office. Since I took office we have added over 200+ unique pieces to included, photos, postcards, collectibles and paintings that present our amazing Rockingham Courthouse and Public Square".
The general public is welcome to visit during regular office hours and are encouraged to share anything they may have that would fit into this historical collection.

2026 Rockingham County Fair: Nights 4-6

The week got extra busy, but let me say this was probably the busiest and best fair yet. So many folks coming by with questions about probate, concealed carry permits and all the history we have preserved dating back to 1778.

Saturday ended with the livestock sale. An amazing time to see all the young producers of beef, goats, lamb and hogs present their critters at auction. NO FARMS NO FOOD!!!!

2026 Rockingham County Fair Night 3: Spent a good part of the evening visiting the stalls of steers, goat and lambs and meeting so many exceptional future farmers.
I’m continuously grateful to see and meet so many of our community members.
Extra special tonight with a visit from the youngest daughter Faith and granddaughter Brielle (under the hat).

2026 Rockingham County Fair Night 2:
My Mrs. Virginia and I began the night volunteering at the request of the Cross Keys Ruritan Club working in the Chicken Shack serving up their amazing fried delights. A quick visit to the courthouse display to greet some folks along with amazing deputy clerks and seeing some friends.

Finished the evening running over to the Town of Bridgewater council meeting to administer the oath of office to Billy Kyger who is the filling the seat currently open until the election in November where he is one of the candidates on the ballot to complete the unexpired term.

2026 Rockingham County Fair Night 1: The heat dropped from 90 to 70 after the typical fair night storm and the crowds showed up. Always great to see so many folks and share what we do in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office on their behalf.

🎒 100 Backpacks for Local Students! 📚✏️

The Clerk’s Office is proud to support local students through this year’s Tools for School campaign with United Way of Central Shenandoah Valley.

Jim Sacco, Director of Development for United Way, recently visited as we prepared 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to help local students begin the new school year ready to learn.

Supporting our community is an important part of serving Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with United Way and contribute to a program that directly supports local students and families.
