This month, Harrisonburg Rescue Squad purchased new Zoll Zenix monitors! These new monitors will replace our old Zoll monitors after almost 10 years of service. While the capabilities are similar, these new monitors will be a vital piece of equipment on the ambulances and SERVs, allowing our members to obtain vitals, EKGs, and perform life saving electrotherapy more efficiently!

APRIL MEMBERSHIP SPOTLIGHT!

Harrisonburg Rescue Squad’s membership spotlight for the month of April is our senior member, Paramedic Max Kutil!

Max joined HRS in July 2020, seeking clinical experience after hearing about the agency from a friend who was already a member. While studying at JMU, Max completed the required training to be released as both a driver and Attendant-in-Charge (AIC). He now serves as a paramedic and Duty Officer, in addition to volunteering as a Driver Preceptor, BLS Preceptor, and ALS Preceptor.

When asked about the best qualities of HRS, Max highlights “The people. Seeing old friends and meeting new providers. Every person at this agency has a drive to provide the best possible care, and it’s refreshing to see the commitment that everyone has to being their best.” He also speaks highly of the agency’s strong emphasis on training and the exceptional quality of its providers, from experienced flight providers to the newest AICs. Max shares that he would feel confident being cared for by any member of the team. Additionally, Max credits his time at HRS with helping him gain confidence and shaping him both personally and professionally, along with teaching him valuable lessons in humility and grace.

At HRS, Max can always be counted on to assist with training. He especially enjoys creating high-quality training scenarios for members at all levels and hopes to establish a regular training program centered around these scenarios in the future. He plans to continue volunteering long enough to achieve life membership and aspires to become a flight nurse.

Currently, Max works full-time as a paramedic with Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad and is a full-time nursing student at Blue Ridge Community College. Outside of school, work, and HRS, Max enjoys a variety of hobbies, particularly those centered around games. He enjoys board games, card games, tabletop gaming, and painting miniature figures. At home, he also cares for a small “zoo” of animals, including several reptiles, along with a dog and two cats.

Harrisonburg Rescue Squad is proud of Max for his growth, commitment to the agency and community, and strives to be the best he can be. We are incredibly lucky to have him as a provider and are excited about what the future holds for him! We appreciate you Max!
