Did you happen to drive by and see this scene on Thursday and wonder "what's up?" That's a Walking Field Trip!

HPD D.A.R.E. Officer Bechtel and other HPD team members often help es**rt groups of local kids and families to nearby playgrounds and other places to play. Yesterday families walked from Stone Spring Elementary School to Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation's A Dream Come True Playground.

There will be other Walking Field Trips throughout the summer, so please drive carefully when you pass by!

Harrisonburg Police Department Facility Dog Hudson, accompanied by his human Detective Miller, stopped by the Clerk’s Office for a quick visit.

Remember - there are things you can do to drive safer when it's raining like we've experienced the last few days: make sure your headlights are on, reduce your speeds and increase your following distance! Be careful out there.

Good morning! Scattered showers and thunderstorms will bring a risk of heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding today. Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are expected again Wednesday. Officer Scott Drugo and Det. Alan Dyer took advantage of the rainy conditions on Friday to put Police Mountain Bike School participants through some wet conditions testing. Bike School is a training program offered through the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy to jurisdictions across the area that teaches skills such as cycling in traffic, night riding, community policing, Virginia bicycle laws and numerous other matters of safety. Some of the performance evaluations include riding up and down stairs, slow speed maneuvering in cone courses and a scored fi****ms performance. The course is instructed by Officer Drugo and Det. Dyer with assistance from other officers who have completed the course and are certified instructors. This year’s program includes officers from HPD and JMU PD.
