Name: David Reece

Occupation/Business: Network Planning and Security

Educational Background: 1985 Graduate, Harrisonville High School. Masters, Electrical Engineering, University of Missouri, Columbia

Why did you decide to run for school board? To ensure that our students receive the best opportunities and make it possible for them to stay and thrive in our community. To achieve that, we need engaged teachers and parents to work together for the overall health of the district.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge facing the Harrisonville Schools? The politicization of our schools and children, leading to unnecessary community strife and adverse outcomes for students, teachers, and administrators.

What do you feel are the district’s biggest strengths? There are three that are great advantages. We have great teachers, Cass Career Center is an awesome resource, and the introduction of Drury University has a ton of untapped potential to be life-changing for our community.

Family: Wife of 25 years, two children (HHS 2017, UCM, 2021 BS Computer Science, Cum Laude with Honors) (HHS 2020, UCM, 2024 BA Graphic Design), our family moved back to the community in 2003.

I am the child of a public schoolteacher. I am the parent of a son who has been a public schoolteacher and who remains a private instructor in a public high school. Many dear friends are public schoolteachers. As a child, I helped my mother grade papers every night, and I watched her work long ho

My daughter Elizabeth, who's studying to be a Graphic Designer at UCM, is designing my logo for signs this weekend. I'll also be printing up business cards to hand out. Please donate if you can, so we can be successful! I'll also be looking for folks to "host" signs when it comes time.

A little biography - I was born and grew up in Harrisonville, and am a 1985 graduate of Harrisonville HS. I received my master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia. I am a member of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical engineering honor fraternity.

About the time I graduated, the World Wide Web was created and the Internet exploded. I went into network design and network management. I was employed 18 years in the telecom industry, working my way up to leadership positions. Since 2016, I have worked and/or led various contracts for the Federal Government, mostly surrounding computing networks and security. I have handled yearly budgets, personnel, policies, and contracts at various times for over 15 years.

My wife Karen and I have been married just over 25 years, and we have two great kids. We have lived back in the district since 2003. Our children are also graduates of Harrisonville in 2017 and 2020. Both went on to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, with the eldest graduating cm laude with honors in 2021 with a degree in Computer Science.
