Firefly's Wildlife Rescue

Firefly's Wildlife Rescue Firefly’s Wildlife Rescue cares for injured, orphaned, and displaced native wildlife. We do this on our own, without funding from state or federal agencies.

Through ethical rehabilitation, education, and rural outreach, we bridge gaps in wildlife care and access—supporting healthy ecosystems, coexistence, and community. Firefly's Wildlife Rescue is permitted to rehabilitate Missouri furbearers and bats. Please consider supporting us in our journey.

A huge, and I mean HUGE, thank you to the gentleman from Honeywell who spent their day building, deep cleaning, and caring for our wildlife patients with us. These guys worked their tails off, and are still going. A month's worth of projects completed in a day. I am just so thankful for them.

Some people just quietly become part of the heart of a rescue. The Lawrences have been supporting Firefly’s since the beginning, always looking out for the wild neighbors around them in a conservation-minded way instead of a fear-based one.

Back in 2022, they brought us our very first armadillo patient. Last night, they were back again — this time with an injured momma opossum carrying 9 babies. Mom has a leg injury we’ll be assessing and treating, while the babies stay safely tucked close.

And in true wildlife rehab fashion… there was also a trade involved. The Lawrences helped give some of our older rehabbed opossums the thing every growing opossum eventually needs: a new zip code.

Wildlife rescue takes a community willing to care, learn, and coexist. We are endlessly grateful for people like the Lawrences who choose kindness toward the wild things around them.

Together, we shine brighter.

Are those assault opossums? Tiny tanks in built-in armor?

Nope, just two juvenile Nine-banded armadillo babies learning that rehab life means warm beds and lots of bugs!

Baby season is in full swing over here at Firefly’s Wildlife Rescue
and our shelves are moving faster than we can restock them.

Right now, our biggest needs from the Chewy wish list are:

• Critical Care Carnivore
• Critical Care Omnivore
• Capstar flea treatment

These supplies help us stabilize injured and orphaned wildlife when they first come through our doors, especially the tiny ones who arrive cold, weak, dehydrated, and covered in fleas after storms, tree trimming, or nest falls.

Every can, bottle, and dose makes a difference for the animals in our care. Truly.

If you’d like to help us keep up with baby season chaos, our wish list is the fastest way to jump in and support the critters behind the scenes. Together, we shine brighter. 🐾✨

Wildlife rescue. Domestic rescue. Animal control. Transport. Fundraising. Education. None of it happens alone.

It takes the volunteer who shows up after work to wash dishes and prep diets. The community member who donates paper towels, gas money, or just shares a post. The officer making one more late night transport. The rescue taking the call when everyone else is full. The rehabber answering messages at midnight during baby season.

This work takes a village. Always has.

We are incredibly grateful to work alongside people and organizations who care deeply about animals and the humans trying to help them. Huge shout out to our friends at Lucky 13 Rescue, CBT, Creatures By Theresa, Risen from the Ashes, Wild Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue and Rehab, and all of our amazing animal control partners who help bridge the gap every single day.

No one group can do it all. But together? We make a pretty good team.

Together, we shine brighter. 🐾✨

They don’t know it yet, but the real wildlife lessons are just beginning. Climbing higher. Swimming. Foraging. Learning what food is safe, where to find it, and how to be appropriately suspicious of the world around them.

Every stage gets a little messier, a little wilder, and a little more rewarding to watch.

These babies may look cute and clumsy now, but the goal has always been the same: raise them to be raccoons, not pets. And that means giving them the skills they’ll need long after they leave us. 🦝

Twelve little wild ones back where they belong.

One orphaned eastern cottontail turned into a whole crew of 12 growing up together here at Firefly’s. Today, they reminded us just how fast “ready for release” really is… because the second that carrier opened, they were *gone*. We only managed to catch one photo before the chaos disappeared into the grass.

And that’s exactly how we like it.

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms, animal moms, foster moms, grandmas, rehabbers, chaos coordinators, snack distributors, and tiny-life-keeping-it-alive-at-3am professionals.

Whether your babies have hair, fur, feathers, scales, or just scream at you from another room for no reason… today is yours.

Around here, motherhood looks a little different. It looks like warming boxes, endless laundry, syringe feedings, cleaning p**p off literally everything, and somehow still stopping to say “oh my gosh, look how cute.”

So today we celebrate the people who love hard, show up tired, and keep going anyway.

The world is softer because of you.
