There is a post that has been circulating and being widely shared on Facebook that contains misinformation regarding election procedures in Missouri.
Although we are unsure where the post originated, but we can confirm that the information does not apply to paper ballots issued in Missouri. Missouri law requires poll workers to initial paper ballots before issuing them to voters.
Missouri Revised Statutes § 115.433 states:
“After the voter's identification certificate has been initialed, two judges of different political parties, or one judge from a major political party and one judge with no political affiliation, shall, where paper ballots are used, initial the voter's ballot or ballot card.”
Please be mindful of what you read and share on social media. Election laws and procedures vary from state to state, and information that may apply elsewhere does not necessarily apply to Missouri.
