What are our EMT-B students doing in class right now? They’re learning how the heart and lungs function together by practicing in the PIG Lab class. Class was also attended by some of our personnel who assisted and participated in the class. PIGs are anatomically the closest to human anatomy to study internal organs. Class was a great success!! 🚑

EMT-B spring course 2026 is off to a great start. First night the students are required to start wearing their uniforms. We have an awesome group of students who are so amazing! Each week the students are introduced to new skills that they will use to care for sick and injured patients. This week the students are learning the basics of ABC’s of health care which begins the foundation of their ability to properly care for patients. Stay tuned as we share our success!!

I slunk into class with a Grinchy grimace, a gift to myself on this cold, twinkly Chrismas.
An EMT-B course—oh the noise, noise, noise!
But somewhere in lectures, I found a strange joy.
Instead of ruining cheer, I learned splints and first aid,
snarling while practicing skills I’d soon trade.
Now I grump through my training with festive disdain,
a green, grumpy medic-in-training—how perfectly in vain!
I signed up—blast it!-for a course I can’t ditch,
starting January 13th, 2026 (oh, isn’t that rich?).
From 6 to 10 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays I’ll creep,
while the rest of you Whos are all tucked in to sleep.
Yes, an EMT-B class, a “present” (harumph!) to myself,
though I’d rather shove Christmas straight back on the shelf.
But I’ll grumble through lessons, all grouchy and green,
the Grinch learning vitals—now that’s quite the scene!

EMS crews who take the GEMS (Geriatric Education for EMS) course gain valuable insight into the unique medical, physical, and cognitive challenges faced by older adults. Through hands-on skills activities—such as simulations of strokes, arthritis, cataracts, and other common geriatric health concerns—providers experience firsthand how these conditions impact mobility, perception, and communication. These realistic scenarios strengthen clinical assessment skills, promote empathy, and prepare EMS professionals to deliver safer, more effective, and more compassionate care to the aging population they serve.

How do you deliver the unbearable? Through difficult, compassionate training, Paramedics and EMT’s not only train in life-saving interventions, but also in the profoundly difficult task of delivering bad news. Breaking Bad News was a recent training session developed by NAEMT to assist and guide crews with the equipment and the knowledge, compassion and sensitivity required to communicate with patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments- ensuring that even in times of loss, care and dignity remain at the forefront. Turning a moment of heartbreak into the human connection with comfort and care.

EMS and Fire routinely fly critical patients from scenes everyday and keeping up to date with policies and procedures with Life Flight Eagle is paramount to the success of our crews and our patients. Thank you to Sheila Hagan and Davis Owen’s for the amazing classes over helicopter utilization. Crews received landing zone information that apply to landing and take off regulations and a tour of the station and take-off procedures that the flight crews go through. Thank you again for all the wonderful information.
