We’ve had a lot of questions about the recent assessment notices that were mailed out, so here’s some clarification:
These notices are for Personal Property. Personal property includes items like vehicles, trucks, boats, motors, trailers, and similar assets.
This is not a Real estate change notice, and it does not relate to land or home values.
If you noticed an increase in your value, it’s typically because something was newly purchased, added, or updated during the reporting period. These changes are reflected by the owners submitted personal property assessment.
High mileage must be reported annually, If your assessment was increased due to non submission of your high mileage report please submit documentation for your adjustment.
Under Missouri law (RSMo 137.115 and 137.122), personal property is assessed annually based on what you owned as of January 1, and taxpayers are required to report taxable items. Any additions or changes to your property can affect the total assessed value.
If you have questions or believe something is incorrect, please reach out to our office at 816-380-8400—we’re happy to help review your account with you.
