Welcome, Michelle Jones!

Ritchie County Extension is pleased to announce that Michelle Jones has joined our team as Program Assistant!

Michelle grew up in the 4-H program and has remained actively involved as a dedicated 4-H volunteer. Her background and experience in an office setting, along with her extensive involvement in 4-H, will be a wonderful asset to the Ritchie County 4-H and Livestock programs. Michelle has served as the Ritchie County Livestock Association Secretary/Treasurer and Ritchie County 4-H All-Star Secretary. She has earned her 4-H Charting Pin and was recently inducted into the Ritchie County 4-H All-Star program. Michelle has also volunteered as a 4-H Camp Counselor for more than nine years and has shared her talents as a craft and class instructor at 4-H Camp. Her organizational skills, knowledge of the 4-H program, and commitment to helping youth succeed will serve her well in her new role. We are excited to have Michelle join our team!!

The Ritchie County Youth Livestock Program continues to grow each year, and we are excited to welcome a new group of exhibitors to the program! This year’s first-time exhibitors were Nichole Sutorius, Aubrie Means, Aydin Bonnett, Olivia Nicholas, Amy Sutorius, R***r Jackson, and Brandley Bonnett. Congratulations to these young exhibitors on completing their first year in the livestock program! We wish you all the best as you continue to learn, grow, and make memories through the Ritchie County Youth Livestock Program.

Rylan Haught and Brooklynn Deem were awarded the prestigious Sportsmanship Belt Buckle at the Ritchie County Youth Livestock Show & Sale. This award is presented to exhibitors who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship through kindness, respect to their peers and judges, courtesy, helpfulness, and a positive attitude, while serving as a role model for their fellow 4-H members. Overall Showmanship is a high honor for the Ritchie County Youth Livestock members. Showmanship Award: Exhibitors first compete for Showmanship within their species. The first-place Showmanship winner then advances to the Overall Showmanship competition, where they compete against the other species winners by showing a variety of animals throughout the barn. The exhibitor who demonstrates the best overall knowledge, skill, animal handling, and showmanship is named the Overall Showmanship Champion. This year winners were Paisley Shriver, Jr. Division - Reserve Champion Showmanship, Braxton Satterfield, Jr. Division, Grand Champion Showmanship, Andrea Huffman, Sr. Division Grand Champion Showmanship, and Raelyn Snider, Sr. Division, Reserve Champion Showmanship. And now, for your entertainment, the Ritchie County Livestock “Old Goat Show”! This is the one time parents and grandparents get the opportunity to step into the ring and show an exhibit animal of their choice. You may not want to sit too close to the action—you never know when you might be randomly called into the ring, just like Devin Wells!

This year’s Old Goat Show winner was JD Cunningham, who proudly showed a steer. JD was presented with the trophy by last year’s winner, Rob Deem. It was definitely a crowd favorite and a fun way to bring a little extra entertainment to the livestock show!

The Livestock Show and Sale are over, and the barn is quiet once again. But while the Ritchie County livestock youth work hard year-round on their animal projects, they also know how to have a little fun in the ring—especially during the Costume Contest! This year’s winner was Carter Satterfield with his “Hawaiian Hog,” bringing plenty of laughter to the show. A big thank-you to everyone who participated! We hope to see even more creative costume couples in the ring next year!

Ritchie County Livestock Scholarship

Five Ritchie County youth were recently awarded the Ritchie County Youth Livestock Scholarship. This scholarship is made possible through the donations during the annual livestock sale, fundraisers, and generous private donors. Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients: Kadessa Stitt, Kenzie West, Carter Satterfield, Turner Shriver, and Brayson Hayes!

Livestock and FFA youth are encouraged to apply for this scholarship by completing an application outlining their future plans, educational goals, and plans for continuing their education.

Ritchie County 4-H Teen Leaders held their end of year picnic at North Bend Outfitters. They evaluated the pro’s and con’s of the 2026 4-H camp and came up with their theme for next year. Also, as a end of year service project, the teens cleared the boat ramp that was filled with debris from the recent high waters. How How for a job well done.

Join us for an end-of-year Teen Leader cookout! 🌭🔥

We’ll enjoy some good food and time on the water with boats, kayaks, and canoes, while also taking some time to look back on an awesome summer.

You helped choose what you wanted to do at camp this year, so now we want to hear from you:

We’ll also kick around ideas for next year’s camp theme and start thinking about what we can make even better for the next group of campers.
