FEMA will have a team to help with disaster recovery support from the April 2026 flooding at the Alcona High School new gym lobby Thursday, August 20th thru Monday, August 24th from 9am-6pm each day. Anyone who needs assistance in recovering loss from the flooding are welcome. Please see the attached flyer for more information on the recovery process.

UPDATE: Test was concluded at 2:58 pm. Thank you!

We are conducting our monthly weather siren tests today. They will sound in Greenbush, Hubbard Lake, Glennie, Mikado, Lincoln, Harrisville and Barton City for 3 minutes. The test will be conducted at 1:55 p.m.

These tests are conducted in the warmer months on the first Saturday of the month and we will usually be conducted before 2 pm. This post will be updated AFTER the test is finished. Thank you!

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD WARNING – NORTHERN ALCONA COUNTY ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Northern Alcona County and Southwestern Alpena County until 9:30 PM.

Heavy rainfall has already occurred, with an additional 1–3 inches possible, leading to flash flooding of roads, low-lying areas, creeks, and poor drainage areas.

Please use caution:
🚧 Turn Around, Don’t Drown – Never drive through flooded roadways.
📞 Report flooding to local emergency services if it is safe to do so.

Stay weather aware and avoid unnecessary travel this evening.

On behalf of Alcona County Central Dispatch, I would like to take a moment and extend a heartfelt congratulations to our very own DeAnna L Dunn-McKenzie as she officially retires after 40 amazing years as an Alcona County 911 Dispatcher. DeAnna has touched so many lives and helped so many people during the best and worst times of their lives during her career. Her service, dedication, professionalism and compassion are unwavering. She is truly an inspiration for the next generation of 911 dispatchers and she will definitely be missed.

Below is a video of her send off via radio from her partner and fellow dispatcher, Sarah McLeod. Sarah did an amazing job making everyone, including herself, cry, but absolutely everything she said was true.

Thank you DeAnna for everything. You are absolutely the definition of the Thin Gold Line.

Alcona County Central Dispatch has implemented a new emergency notification system called Everbridge to notify Alcona County of severe weather conditions and other emergencies. These notifications are intended to better prepare our residents for emergencies that may have impact on their safety and wellbeing.
