Hello everyone!
We’ve been ramping up towards hunting season in the last month and it’s time for early season updates. Apologies that this is last minute and later than I’d usually like, but the uncertainties surrounding draws for this season and timelines for some projects made me delay until now to make some announcements.
First, draws will remain 7 days a week, 2 draws a day during the regular season this year! Our local partner groups Harsens Island Waterfowl Hunters Association and St Clair Flats Waterfowlers Inc were instrumental in this decision and I’d encourage you to join, follow and support those groups, especially as we work towards long term solutions to staffing and funding for the managed areas.
For the September seasons, I’ll be holding a draw at 530am on September 1st for opening day of teal and goose season. Self registration permits will be available daily at the self-check in kiosk September 2-9, with permits available for the remainder of goose self-registered after that.
We’ll be open for the youth deer hunt weekend September 12-13 with draws at 6am each day for that hunt.
We’ll be open for the youth/veterans hunt September 19-20 with regular draws at 530 and 1130 both days for that hunt.
More info and crop updates will come out as we get closer to regular season, but we’re looking in really good shape right now! (Pic is a wild rice stand in the east marsh)
