PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bridge rehabilitation work including removal and reinstallation of steel grid deck, replacement of beam splice plates, replacement of bearing beams, installation of steel bracing, and steel cleaning and coating on Longbridge Road pedestrian structures over Pentwater River, Pentwater Township, Oceana County.

This project is a collaboration between Pentwater Township, the Oceana County Road Commission, and WMSRDC and is made possible by a Great Lake Fisheries Trust Grant for $250,000. Pentwater Township and the Road Commission approved contributing $53,000 each, or a total of $106,000 as matching funds towards the total project cost estimated to be $356,000 including engineering, inspection and traffic control.

The OCRC approved the contractor bid at the May 13 meeting.

The award for the Bridge Rehabilitation on Longbridge Road Pedestrian Structure over the Pentwater River project was given to Michigan Bridge Construction in the amount of $343,814.97 which is the low bid. Michigan Bridge Construction is an MDOT pre-qualified bridge contractor and their subcontractors meet the requirements for Bridge Painting.

The project is anticipated to start Monday June 8th, and completion is to be sometime in August. The work has to be done on this time frame do to the restrictions and timeline of the grant funding.

Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals with traffic to remain open, using alternating lanes without a detour.

The Great Lakes Fishery Trust is an innovative funding source created to compensate the residents of Michigan for the lost use and enjoyment of fisheries resources of Lake Michigan resulting from the operation of the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant (LPSP).

M20 is open for traffic now that the surface portion of the Tunnel project is ready for motorists. Improvements include a new right turn lane on M20 for eastbound traffic entering 68th Ave and the addition of a center turn lane, widening and new pavement on 68th Ave. The base paint on the face and wing walls of the tunnel with contrasting color staining is complete and the pedestrian fence has been installed. The contractor has installed seeding, mulch, blanket, and rip rap for slope protection. It really has a nice appearance. Both roads have striping installed. Work will continue on the tunnel including electrical and lighting.

Roundabouts are being seen more and more on our roadways, and for a good reason. But still, for some people, they can be a little intimidating. The Montgomer...
