Lawmakers approved two laws in this session that hurt public health: Online gambling and the legalization of recreational ma*****na. Both actions will expand the reach of ma*****na and gambling, and in doing so, reach deeper into vulnerable populations and expand the overall numbers of people who suffer from either ma*****na or gambling addiction and in some cases probably both.

The lawmakers who passed this bill into law knew full well that on-line gambling would cause people to become addicted to it and they knew people would go bankrupt. So did that keep them from passing the bill?

4. In 2009, the state sponsored study found that there was a 400% increase in arrests for embezzlement in Connecticut
since the casinos arrived, an increase of ten times the national average.

Connecticut lawmakers are holding public hearings on bills to legalize online gambling and build a casino in Bridgeport. The Public Safety and Security Committee is holding the hearing on Tuesday. Please email written before Tuesday at 9 a.m. to [email protected]

The two key bills are up for consideration:

Senate Bill 146: An Act Authorizing Sports Wagering, Online Casino Gambling, Online Lottery, and Online Keno.

This bill allows the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe to conduct online sports wagering and online casino gambling. It also enables the Connecticut Lottery to sell lottery tickets online as well as run Keno games online.

Senate Bill 570: An Act Authorizing a Tribal Resort-Casino in Bridgeport, Sports Wagering, Internet Gaming, and Internet Lottery. This bill will authorize a casino in Bridgeport.

In your testimony:

Please address your testimony to Rep. Horn, Senator Bradley, and Members of the Public Safety and Security Committee.

Include your name and address in the testimony.

Include the bill numbers and names in your testimony ( mentioned above) and write that you oppose both bills and why.
