Liliana's mother Carrie-Ann was pregnant, living in her car, and scared of what the future held for them. Then everything changed.

She arrived at the hospital to deliver baby Liliana — and left with the news that a safe home was waiting for them both at My Sisters' Place. The stability of her own home has helped Liliana grow into the energetic, lively preschooler she is today.

Celebrate the long weekend by seeing what the Youth Program has been up to! First, they celebrated with games, art activities, and a creative snack - Yoda Soda and chocolate lightsaber pretzels. Then they explored the world of anime by playing Pokemon-themed games, creating anime collages, and learning how to fold origami!

Liliana was two months old when her mom Carrie-Ann finally had a safe, stable place to call home at My Sisters’ Place. That stability changed everything: Carrie-Ann was able to enroll Liliana in Early Head Start with the help of our Youth Program. And when Early Head Start identified a developmental challenge, Liliana was able to receive supportive services. Today Liliana is three, happy, and thriving in a specialized preschool that meets her needs. 💛

Today is the last day of Connecticut's legislative session, and we are happy to say that our voices have been heard and our legislators have passed a budget that increases funding for nonprofits! Our friends at Reid and Riege, P.C., led by our very own Board member Colin Wrinn, took advantage of the beautiful spring weather to make a difference at Mary Seymour Place! This dynamic group weeded, planted, and beautified the grounds - and the results were spectacular! Because of their hard work, the residents at Mary Seymour Place have a home they can feel proud of!

Moms in My Sisters' Place's supportive housing program have easy and healthy family meals at their fingertips, thanks to the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Women's Interest Group! This thoughtful group of future health professionals and social workers worked all year to develop meal kits for the women and families of My Sisters' Place after learning how food insecurity disparately impacts women in Connecticut. The kits contained nonperishable food items, four recipes, and tips and tricks to help residents choose foods that are as good for them as they are tasty.
