My heart is with Connecticut’s Nepali community as we all learn about the devastating flooding and avalanche that occurred in the Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet. Hoping that the United States will join other countries in the United Nations to provide much needed humanitarian relief. 🇳🇵

Officials warned residents in several of Nepal’s districts to stay away from the banks of the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli and Narayani rivers.

On this day, the 19th amendment was adopted that granted women the right to vote. While we’ve made progress, the fight to ensure women’s equality rages on.

Yesterday, I had the honor of joining First Selectman Josh Brooks and community members for a beautiful ceremony recognizing Ukraine Independence Day for 35 years of independence. I read a proclamation from Governor Lamont honoring this day in the State of Connecticut. I am especially grateful to Iryna Bonenberger, a resident, RTM member and impressive human, whose advocacy made this ceremony happen. Proud of this town for standing together. 🇺🇦

📚 What a morning in Branford! Thank you to everyone who stopped by The Legislators Are In and Dr. Bookworm’s Office. It was so much fun talking about books and the importance of reading.

A big thank you to Read to Grow, Connecticut’s statewide early literacy nonprofit, for partnering with us to make this happen. Early literacy is one of the strongest investments we can make in a child’s future, and it’s a priority we’ve worked hard to support at the state level.

Locally, the Branford Early Start Partnership For Children continues to do great work strengthening early childhood programs and services right here in town. When our state partnerships and local communities work hand in hand, days like this are possible for our families.

Grateful to have shared the day with State Representative Moira Rader and State Senator Christine Cohen, and even more grateful for every young reader who came by! 🐛📖

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit York Correctional Institution with the Frederick Douglass Project. While it wasn’t my first visit to York, the only women’s prison in Connecticut, it was my first time participating in this program, which was founded to facilitate meaningful, face-to-face conversations with incarcerated individuals.

These small-group dialogues are designed to build empathy, reduce stigma, and help lower recidivism by fostering understanding and connection. It was truly inspiring to see the positive impact that ambassadors, like Ray, can have on incarcerated individuals through these conversations.

Experiences like this are a powerful reminder of the importance of seeing the person behind the circumstances and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue, growth, and rehabilitation.
