Young people aren’t just the future. They’re leading a change right now.

At HCTC’s 8th Annual Raising Youth Voices Summit, youth leaders from the Greater Hartford Youth Leadership Academy used research, lived experiences, and data to tackle some of Hartford’s biggest challenges, including educational inequities, community violence, substance use, and poverty.

More importantly, they didn’t just identify problems. They proposed solutions.

From advocating for safer communities and expanded after-school opportunities to promoting mental health support and financial literacy, these young leaders demonstrated the power of youth voice in shaping a stronger Hartford.

This level of insight and innovation is only possible through the collective commitment of our partners, mentors, and the entire Greater Hartford community. Thank you to everyone who stood with us and invested in the brilliance of our youth.

When we create space to truly listen to young people, we all gain a clearer path toward a better, safer future.

A reminder that community support can look like showing up, being present, and creating spaces where young people feel seen.

As the school year comes to a close, Weaver High School Campus annual field day was about letting students enjoy the moment — with food, games, music, community resources, and good energy all around this year!

Our 8th Annual Youth Summit was more than just an event — it was a space for young voices to be heard, empowered, and uplifted. 💫

Throughout the day, youth participated in impactful workgroups focused on Youth Advocacy in Action: You, To***co & Your Community, Alleviating Poverty, Equalizing Education, Preventing Substance Use Addiction, and addressing Community Violence. Through honest conversations and solution-driven discussions, our young leaders showed up ready to create change and build a stronger future for Hartford.

This recap captures just a glimpse of the energy, passion, and purpose that filled the room. We’re proud to continue creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to use their voices.

Thank you to our partners, speakers, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this year’s summit impactful. The future is bright because our youth are already leading the way. 💙

Two weeks ago, we proudly held our 8th Annual Youth Summit, hosted by our Youth Leadership Academy. This event brings together young leaders from across the Greater Hartford community for a day of connection, conversation, and action.

From honest dialogue to solution-driven discussions, our youth showed up ready to lead and create change. This year’s summit theme was "Impact in Action: Turning Our Voices into Progress", which is a powerful reminder that when young people are given the space and support to use their voices, real impact happens.

Special thanks to our partners: Black Girls Achieve , Greater Hartford Kappa League, MPact Mentoring Inc., Advocacy to Legacy, Access to Racial and Cultural Health Institute, Inc., and Phillips Health Center.
A sincere thank you to our lawmakers, State Senator John Fonfara (Deputy President Pro Tempore) and Congressman John Larson (CT's first district) for sharing such encouraging words to keep our youth motivated. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who attended in support of this annual event.

6 weeks. Countless conversations. One stronger community.

Our Neighborhood Care Response & Community Support Training has officially come to a close. Over the past six weeks, residents, partners, and community members came together to learn practical ways to respond to trauma, support families, and strengthen neighborhood safety in Hartford.

From understanding trauma and connecting with local providers to engaging in critical conversations around public safety and community collaboration, each session built on the next. What started as a training grew into a space for honesty, learning, and real connection.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their voices, and committed to doing this work. Your presence is what made this experience meaningful.

This may be the end of the series, but it is only the beginning. The knowledge, relationships, and action steps we built together will continue to move us forward as we work toward a safer, healthier Hartford.

Stay connected. The work continues.

HCTC was proud to have Shenell Benjamin, Managing Director of Community Safety and Well-Being, present at Saint Francis Hospital representing our ongoing partnership and commitment to hospital-linked violence intervention and Trauma Recovery Services work across Greater Hartford.

Since 2004, our partnership has been rooted in the Hartford Care Response Team (HCRT), providing immediate, trauma-informed support to victims of violence and their families.

This moment reflects the continued growth of that work.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and at HCTC we are committed to creating spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and safe.

Autism is not one experience. It is a spectrum, and every individual has their own strengths, needs, and way of moving through the world.

In our communities, many autistic individuals, especially youth, face misunderstanding, stigma, and a lack of support. That can lead to isolation and unmet needs, which is why acceptance matters.

Support can look like creating inclusive spaces, practicing patience, listening to lived experiences, and providing trauma informed care. It starts with how we show up for one another.

Let’s move beyond awareness and choose acceptance together.
