June’s Veteran of the Month is Joe “Buck” Murawski. His son Joseph spoke eloquently and emotionally at the ceremony about his dad. He loved being a Marine, loved working, and loved being with his family.

Saturday morning was a good day for walk, especially with GirlTREK. We started at the The Norwalk Art Space and went through Mathews Park to the top of Oyster Shell Park and back. It was followed by a panel discussion.

GirlTREk is the largest health movement and health organization for Black women and girls in the United States.

Saturday was the 5th annual “Pride by the Pond” at Tilley Pond Park in Darien. It was a beautiful day, the crowd gets bigger every year, and the support is extraordinary.

I was asked to address folks there and focused my remarks on how we all need to treat each other with dignity, kindness, and respect every day, not just one day. Some show up to events like these, make speeches, present proclamations and then do the very opposite with their actions or refuse to speak up when there is an injustice.

In this moment of our nation’s history, our voices and actions go a long way when we see others who are being hurt or marginalized. We all strive to be good neighbors and events like this remind us to stand up for ALL members of our community - ALL the time.

One of the most meaningful places I have ever visited is Normandy. The sense of service, sacrifice, emotion and history is unparalleled. These brave souls ensured our freedom and set the stage for victory. We must always remember the fallen. D-Day

On Thursday, there was a significant milestone in the new Walk Bridge. The first piece of steel was put in place. First, it needed to be signed by the hundreds who are helping to improve our infrastructure from the 1800’s to this century - steel workers, structural engineers, electrical workers, consultants, and so many more. Over the last few years a lot of work has been done under water, off site and in prep work for this moment. The steel will be going up rather quickly. The next big milestone will be the removal of the large electrical towers since the power is now live and running underground. The wires stabilize the towers so it all has to be done carefully.

In East Norwalk, there will be noticeable difference to the train station before the end of the year. East Ave south of I-95 will have a complete makeover. The train station and the bridges on Strawberry Hill, Osborne Ave and Fort Point Street will all be brand new. The goal of all of the work is to speed up train service in both directions and provide modern facilities that serve our residents better.

Really exciting news for Norwalk. Manresa WIlds, the non profit re-developing Manresa Island for the community announced a new
Research & Education Station (R.E.S.A) that will be at the site thanks to a $500,000 grant.

Anchored by a consortium between the nonprofit and five leading scientific and educational institutions — Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Wesleyan University, Sacred Heart University, and the Norwalk Board of Education — R.E.S.A. will support the next generation of scientists and environmental stewards while helping expand Connecticut’s capacity for long-term coastal research and climate resilience work.

The station will focus on education and programming to allow students and scientists to work together to preform outdoor field studies.

The legislative session ended almost a month ago, which is hard to believe. Things have not slowed down since then.

Thought I’d share a bunch of photos from the last few days and also the bill signing at the State Supreme Court building for Senate Bill 397, which was our bill democracy bill that addressed automatic license plate readers and ensuring federal agents abide by Connecticut standards.
