Farmers Athletic Field at Wolfe Park in Monroe is officially open, a long-term project that came together beautifully for our community. Credit goes to Monroe’s Parks and Recreation Department and the first selectman’s office, with Terry Rooney, Ken Kellogg, along with State Rep. Tony Scott all playing a part in seeing it through. Grateful to have joined our community to celebrate a new home for recreation in Monroe.

Back-to-school season should feel exciting, not stressful, for every family in our community. I was glad to spend time with Make the Road Connecticut🦋 as they handed out backpacks and clothes to local kids getting ready for the new year. Seeing neighbors show up for each other like this is what makes our community strong.

160 Iranistan Ave

Congratulations to Susan Russell, Teacher of the Year, and to Shirley Dotoratos, Paraeducator of the Year, honored at Monroe Public Schools’ convocation. I loved seeing the tradition continue, with graduating seniors pairing up with kindergartners to share their favorite memories and what they’re looking forward to this year. Thank you to every educator and staff member in Monroe for your dedication, and wishing you all a wonderful year ahead.

It was an honor to join ACCESS Educational Services' She Looks Just Like Me program as a speaker on the final day of camp, an empowering STEAM experience for young women in grades 9-12. Thank you to Gwendolyn Brantley, the program's Executive Director, for the incredible work she does inspiring our next generation of STEM leaders. My own daughter attended the full week, and watching her come home with new ideas and more confidence was a joy. Investing in programs like this means investing in the engineers, scientists, and innovators Connecticut needs.

More thanks than I can say to the Retired Teacher Association of our state for their endorsement, on this first day of school in Bridgeport and Trumbull. In Monroe, teachers are already gathering for professional development. We all have wonderful memories of those teachers who cared -- and many of them are now retired, now needing OUR support! We need to honor the retirement commitments our state made long ago, and I work to do that all year at the legislature.

Today marks Women’s Equality Day, the anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s certification in 1920. That right was won, not given, by generations of women who refused to be shut out of their own democracy. I carry that fight forward every day for women and girls everywhere.

I'm proud to accept the endorsement of the Connecticut State University's AAUP, which includes professors, librarians, counselors, coaches, and athletic trainers. Our four state universities are the jewel in the crown in Connecticut's education system; we are lucky to be able to provide opportunities to more than 100,000 students each year. Fall 2025 marked a 10% increase in enrollment from the previous year, showing the system's strength and importance for our children's futures.
