Congratulations to Mayor Bobby Sanchez and the City of New Britain on the announcement of a $14.7 million federal BUILD grant to improve safety at the Rte 174/East St intersection!
The grant funding will help transform this problematic intersection by replacing the outdated Z-curve with a traditional four-way signalized intersection. The project will improve safety and connectivity by adding new sidewalks, ADA-accessible ramps, and safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists, while providing improved access to the nearby CTfastrak station.
We’re thrilled to support this safety initiative at the Capitol Region Council of Governments!
Our thanks to Office of Governor Ned Lamont, Rep Jahana Hayes, Senator Chris Murphy, and Senator Richard Blumenthal for their support to secure this grant funding!
We also greatly appreciate Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto and the Connecticut Department of Transportation for providing the local match for this project and partnering with the city.
Working together for a better region!
