Get Ready Capitol Region provides residents in the 41 towns of Connecticut's DEMHS Region 3 with news, tips and tools to be aware, plan and prepare for potential disasters. In the past decade alone, Hartford and surrounding towns in DEMHS Region 3 have been affected by blizzards, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, blackouts and heat waves. Get Ready Capitol Region is a project of the Capitol Region Council of Governments and its subcommittee, the Capitol Region Emergency Planning Committee.

No one wants to deal with a , but being prepared can make a big difference and bring peace of mind. Here are a few smart reminders to help you get through it safely:

✅ Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food
✅ If you use a generator, use it only outdoors and far away from windows and doors
✅ Unplug appliances and electronics to protect them from power surges
✅ Make alternate plans for refrigerating medications or powering medical devices

don’t wait and neither should you. Build your emergency kit today so you’re ready when it matters most. Every household should have these essentials on hand:

✅ Bottled water
✅ Several days of non‑perishable food
✅ Battery‑powered or hand‑crank radio
✅ Flashlight
✅ First aid kit
✅ N‑95 masks
✅ Moist towelettes, garbage bags & plastic ties (for sanitation)
