Kathleen L. Sweeney, 78, of Vernon, loving partner of 38 years to Joseph R. Wall, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, after an extended illness. She was born on October 30, 1946, in Ireland, the daughter of the late William and Laura (Smith) Sweeney.

Kathy completed her primary and secondary schooling while residing in Johnstown, PA, with her family. Following high school, she received her bachelor's degree from Temple University as well as her master's degree from the University of Hartford.
Kathy was employed as an art teacher in both Maryland, VA, and Hartford, CT. During her time in Hartford, she spent time at both Fox Middle School and Bulkeley High School and held the title of Director of the Arts for the City of Hartford. She was also a longtime member of the Hartford Federation of Teachers during that time. Kathy was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Hartford and attended Masses regularly. When not assisting students with their creativity, she enjoyed yoga, spending time at the beach, boating and fishing with Joe, as well as traveling abroad.
In addition to Joe, she is survived by her niece, Bridget Loft and her husband Andrew; her nephew, Andrew Gillis; as well as her stepson, Timothy Hutchins. In addition to her parents, Kathy was predeceased by her siblings.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 9-10:15 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rte 83) in Vernon, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Ave., Hartford. Burial will be in Valley Falls Cemetery, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT 06106 or to the Friends of Valley Falls, Inc., P.O. Box 2008, Vernon, CT 06066.
