Welcome Probationary Firefighter Siemen Smidt to the Hartford Fire Department!

Today, Town Manager John Haverstock administered his oath, officially swearing him in as the newest member of our department.

FF Smidt was welcomed by the members of D Shift, where Captain Quillia will be leading his probationary training. We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to supporting him as he begins his career in the fire service.

Retirement Announcement – Deputy Chief Jason Czora

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Chief Jason Czora on his retirement from the Hartford Fire Department on May 13, 2026.

DC Czora joined our organization in 2019 after retiring from the Buffalo, NY Fire Department, bringing with him decades of experience, leadership, and dedication to the fire service. Since arriving in Hartford, he has made a tremendous impact on our department, our culture, and the community we serve.

Jason, thank you for your professionalism, your leadership, and the countless ways you’ve strengthened this organization. Your commitment to the Hartford community—and to the people who serve it—has left a lasting legacy.

FIREFIGHTER EMT/AEMT/PARAMEDIC

The Town of Hartford is accepting applications for the positions of Firefighter EMT/Advanced EMT/Paramedic. Must have the following certifications:

• Valid CPAT card
• High school diploma
• Emergency Medical Technician
• Firefighter level I
• Valid driver’s license

Paramedic certification preferred. A background check, oral interview required for selected applicants. Positions are available July 1, 2026, starting at $26.46 FF/EMT and achieve AEMT within 18 months, $29.10 FF/Paramedic. 42 hour work week plus generous benefit package, education stipends, paid holidays, overtime, Vermont Municipal Retirement System-Group D.

**Retirement Lieutenant Keith Morse**

Lieutenant Keith Morse has just completed his final shift with the Hartford Fire Department. We recognize and thank him for 20 years of dedicated service, commitment, and leadership to this department and our community.
Although he has finished his last shift, Lt. Morse will always remain a member of Hartford’s public safety family.
Lieutenant Morse, congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for your two decades of honorable service.

At 8:03 AM on April 29, 2026, the Hartford Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a reported structure fire at 780 Chandler Road, Wilder, VT. Crews arrived on scene and observed smoke coming from the building.

Firefighters entered the single-family home and found it unoccupied. The small fire was under control at 8:30 AM. The structure has significant heat, smoke, and water damage. The home is currently being renovated, and the owners are not currently living in the property.

The Hartford Fire Marshal is investigating the fire for cause and origin. According to Town records, the property is owned by Alex and Mary DeFelice.
HFD received mutual aid from Hanover, Lebanon, Norwich, and Windsor Fire Departments.
