At the beginning of Pride Month, we celebrated the reopening of the New Haven Pride Center and launched us into the month with renewed hope. After months of uncertainty, this community came together in extraordinary ways. Here’s to rebuilding stronger, together! 🌈✨

For this Mental Health Awareness month this year, Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and I stopped by Ebony Horsewomen, Inc Equestrian and Agricultural Center to visit the stables and meet the staff who manage programming with horses. Therapeutic services, with animals or otherwise, are crucial for those who need it. Be sure to check out locally owned businesses like Ebony Horsewomen, Inc.!

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, call 211 to connect with Connecticut’s Mobile Crisis Team.

Happy Women’s Health Month! Women often prioritize others before themselves, but preventive care and early detection save lives. Medical appointments can feel uncomfortable, but our state is home to skilled, compassionate providers dedicated to creating safe, supportive environments. Be sure to discuss with your provider any key screenings or regular check ups that you might need.

May 5th is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day. Red dresses and red sand at the Capitol this week echoed a painful truth: Indigenous people continue to face disproportionate violence, and too many cases remain unanswered. Today, we honor the lives lost and reaffirm our commitment to visibility, justice, and change.

I have had the pleasure of serving with Senator Looney since 1993. Marty is universally respected by his colleagues for his vast knowledge not only of substantive legislation but his deep understanding and respect for the process, and of course, his integrity and good humor. Inspired by his father, who was a union steward at the Wi******er Arms Factory, Marty never forgets his working-class roots and fights tirelessly to make our state fairer and more just. Over the past eight years, I watched him shepherd major legislation including raising the minimum wage, establishing paid leave and the early childhood endowment, and so much more that will have an impact on our state for decades to come.

His legacy will live on in the countless public servants he’s mentored. Governor Lamont and I wish him a happy, healthy, and productive new chapter with his wife, son, and grandchildren. We are so grateful for his 46 years of distinguished service to our state.

Today we honor the Polish Constitution and celebrate the contributions of the Polish Americans that call Connecticut their home. It is an honor each year to celebrate my own heritage and the generations of Polish Americans that have strengthened our communities. 🇵🇱

This week, we bid farewell to those heading overseas, continuing a proud tradition of Connecticut Guardsmen answering the call. Words can never fully convey the gratitude we feel for the unwavering service and commitment to our nation and our state.
