🚨 SCAM ALERT – PROTECT YOURSELF 🚨

The Hartford Police Department wants to make the public aware of a scam that is currently circulating. Individuals have reported receiving official-looking notices claiming to be from a court or government agency, often demanding immediate payment for alleged traffic violations or unpaid fines.

These notices may:
β€’ Appear very realistic with official seals and case numbers
β€’ Threaten legal action if payment is not made immediately
β€’ Include a QR code directing you to make a payment

⚠️ DO NOT scan these QR codes or send payment. This is a common tactic used by scammers to steal your personal and financial information.

βœ… How to protect yourself:
β€’ Never trust unsolicited notices demanding immediate payment
β€’ Do not scan QR codes from unknown or suspicious sources
β€’ Verify any citation or court notice by contacting your local court directly using official contact information
β€’ Do not provide personal or banking information to unknown sources

Stay alert and help us spread the word to keep our community safe.

🚨Jan. 26, 2026 - Boil Water Advisory Issued

City of Hartford Issues System-Wide Boil Water Advisory Due to Water Main Break

The City of Hartford Water Department is responding to a water main break in the 600 block of Clay Street. City crews are currently on site working to repair the damaged main.

The affected water main is the primary feed line supplying both city water tanks. In order to safely complete repairs, both water tanks will be shut off beginning at 9:00 p.m. on January 26. The estimated repair time is approximately four (4) hours.

As a result, a system-wide Boil Water Advisory is in effect for all Hartford water customers, including residents and businesses. During the repair period, customers should expect little to no water service.

Customers are strongly encouraged to collect and store sufficient water prior to 9:00 p.m. It is also recommended, but not required, for customers with electric water heaters to be shut-off at the breaker and gas water heaters to be shut-off at the gas valve.

Once repairs are completed, the Water Department will collect bacteriological samples over the following days. The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until customers are officially notified that it has been lifted.

Until further notice, all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or food preparation should be boiled for at least three (3) minutes or until a rolling boil is achieved.

The City of Hartford appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as crews work to restore service safely.

❄️ Prevent Frozen Pipes ❄️

With freezing temperatures , we encourage customers to leave faucets dripping overnight, especially on exterior walls or in unheated areas.

πŸ’§ A small, steady drip helps keep water moving and reduces the risk of frozen or burst pipes.

Additional tips:
β€’ Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
β€’ Insulate exposed pipes if possible
β€’ Know where your main shutoff valve is located

Taking a few simple steps now can help prevent costly damage later. Stay warm and stay safe!

🚨 Travel Advisory – Icy Road Conditions 🚨

The Hartford Police Department urges all motorists to remain indoors and avoid travel unless it is an absolute emergency.

Roadways throughout Ohio County are covered in ice, creating extremely hazardous driving conditions. Law enforcement agencies across the county are currently responding to numerous slide-offs and traffic collisions caused by ice accumulating on the roadways.

For your safety and the safety of first responders:
β€’ Stay off the roads if at all possible
β€’ Delay travel until conditions improve
β€’ Use extreme caution if emergency travel is unavoidable

Please continue to monitor local updates and weather advisories. Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe.
