Community Partners in Action Through our programs, we provide a long-term impact that positively transforms individuals and society at large.

Community Partners in Action's programs include reentry and housing, youth initiatives, a nationally recognized Prison Arts Program, and holistic alternatives to incarceration. One of the oldest organizations of its kind in the country, Community Partners in Action (CPA) was founded nearly 150 years ago as a reentry agency to champion criminal justice reform and advocate for preserving the dignity

of those in and out of prison. Annually serving nearly 7,000 individuals throughout CT, our work is possible due to partnerships with and support from individuals, government, private funders, organizations, and businesses. Our programs are located in Hartford, Waterbury, Manchester, and Hamden CT, and in CT Prisons statewide.

🚗 A milestone worth celebrating at REGIONS Hamden! Yesterday was another successful DMV Day at CPA’s REGIONS Youth Residential Treatment Program in Hamden, where 17 young people from four facilities took an important step toward greater independence and opportunity.

🎉 11 earned their Learner’s Permits
🪪 6 received Connecticut DMV Real IDs

We’re especially proud of the young people who prepared for the day, took on the challenge and experienced that incredible feeling of accomplishment. Our partners from the Connecticut DMV even shared that this was the best DMV Day they’ve experienced since this initiative began!

Days like this show what strong partnerships can accomplish. Thank you to the Connecticut Judicial Branch’s Court Support Services Division, Connecticut DMV, our REGIONS teams and everyone who helped secure documents, coordinate transportation and make the day possible.

For these young people, a DMV Real ID or Learner’s Permit is more than a card. It’s another step toward independence, employment, and a successful future.

🎉 Celebrating Dajia Carr!

After a year with Community Partners in Action, we’re saying a very grateful thank you to Dajia Carr, who joined CPA as an intern through UConn’s Master of Public Administration program.

Working alongside our Development and Communications teams, Dajia jumped into everything from grants and fundraising to public affairs and events, bringing enthusiasm, curiosity and a real commitment to CPA’s mission.

One highlight was helping launch CPA’s first-ever Travelers Championship Birdies for Charity campaign, connecting with supporters, tracking our progress and helping us earn recognition as a First-Year Top Fundraiser! ⛳👏

Dajia, thank you for everything you’ve contributed to CPA over the past year. We’re excited to see where your passion for public service and nonprofit development takes you next. We know you have a bright future ahead!

👋Say hello to our newest staff!

Over the course of the last 48 hours, we've introduced new colleagues to everything CPA at our group orientations held yesterday and today. These amazing people will be working with participants across the organization at the REGIONS Residential Treatment Programs in Hamden and Hartford, Alternatives in the Community (AIC), Transitional Housing, Work Release, Waterbury Reentry Welcome Center, and delivering juvenile enrichment training in Bridgeport and Hartford.

We wish them much success on their professional journey!

After more than 30 years incarcerated, artists James Pinder and Mark Despres are home, creating art and exhibiting their work on the outside.

They are among the talented CPA Prison Arts Program alumni featured in “Out of Prison Making Art” in Hartford. And check out that incredible entrance titled, "The Poral," created by Prison Arts alum Danny Killion!

Some scenes from today's check presentation with United Way of Greater Waterbury. It's always great to show off our beautiful Greater Waterbury Reentry Welcome Center, and our new multipurpose room which offers a computer lab and soon to have tables and chairs so that we can hold workshops, presentations and job skill trainings and forums. The former computer lab will soon provide us with additional workspace for our Reentry Welcome Center staff. And, lastly, we couldn't resist to show off one of our past Prison Arts annual show cover pictures from 2002.
