The 2026 Legislative Session in Connecticut ended last Wednesday, May 6th. It was a busy, short session with a lot of bills being introduced and some amazing moments of advocacy.

Although a statewide child tax credit was not established this year, we were successful in building incredible support and momentum for the 2027 session. We also experienced some important wins in other issue areas. 🎉

We will use the off-session to continue building, strategizing, and working with our partners to continue the fight next year!

At She Leads Justice we know Mother’s Day has different meanings to different people. We believe everyday is a perfect day to celebrate not only the women who create us, but the ones who care for us, guide us, teach us, and encourage us.

This Mother’s Day SLJ would like to reaffirm our dedication to leading the fight for women’s economic security in Connecticut. We publish this post and continue our work with gratitude and admiration for all those across our state who nurture and help to shape our future generations. We see you, we appreciate you, and we will never stop fighting for you.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Love,
SLJ đź’ś

It was another long week at the Capitol for our Policy Director- full of long days and nights of session, speaking with legislators, collaborating with partners, and celebrating some wins!

This week we saw bills pass out of chambers that will expand insurance coverage for contraceptives, increase government accountability when civil rights are violated, and strengthen protections for all kinds of workers across Connecticut.

The work continues today and next week, as the session comes to a close next Wednesday, May 6th.

Stay tuned for updates and an End of Session Recap!

It was a big week at the Capitol and SLJ’s Policy Director was there advocating night and day for a CT Child Tax Credit and other important priority issues!

Bills were debated and passed out of chambers, but there’s a lot more work to do - It’s not over until the final bell rings 🔔

Urgent Action Alert!

With only 8 days left in CT's legislative session, SLJ has been notified that important language to expand wage transparency in House Bill (HB) 5003 is danger!

Expanding wage transparency helps combat gender and racial wage gaps which are not only persistent but widening for the first time in many years.

Join us Tuesday, April 28 from 5:30-7:30 in Waterbury to make posters for May Day!

On May 1, people across the nation will take action to demand our country puts workers over billionaires. Many will take a stand against “business as usual.” This means No School. No Work. No Shopping.

Join She Leads Justice for our annual fundraising celebration—we’ll come together to build community, applaud progress, and honor the women helping to advance equity in our state.

We are proud to announce that Gretchen Raffa will be honored at this year’s Constance Baker Motley Award Luncheon. As Chief Policy and Advocacy Officer at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, Planned Parenthood Votes! CT and Planned Parenthood Votes! RI, Gretchen has dedicated her career to advancing reproductive freedom and justice for women in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Her work directly impacts the lives of women and families across the region. Honoring Gretchen is also a recognition that reproductive rights are not separate from economic security, and an act of solidarity at a time when reproductive health providers are facing escalating attacks. Gretchen’s leadership reflects the very spirit of the Constance Baker Motley Award: advancing justice, breaking barriers, and creating pathways forward.
