We were proud to join Windsor Emergency Medical Services for an evening of trauma education led by trauma surgeon Sarah Posillico, MD.

Dr. Posillico shared practical, real-world insights on surgical airway techniques, bleeding control, chest decompression landmarking and the growing role of whole blood administration in trauma care. She also explained the "Diamond of Death," helping EMS providers better understand how trauma patients can rapidly deteriorate and why early intervention matters.

Joining the discussion, John Pettini, DO, FACEP, EMS Medical Director at Trinity Health Of New England, demonstrated a junctional tourniquet and highlighted its value in managing severe bleeding in areas where traditional tourniquets cannot be applied.

We are grateful for opportunities to learn alongside our EMS partners and strengthen the skills that help save lives when every second counts.

Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to patients help make our collective mission possible every day.

"I would like to nominate Lt. Bree Eichler in recognition of her outstanding commitment to clinical excellence, the mission of our organization, and the continued development of those around her. Lt. Eichler consistently demonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge, sound judgment, and professionalism in her role as a paramedic supervisor. She leads by example on calls and maintains a strong focus on providing high-quality patient care while supporting the crews she supervises. Her commitment to the mission is evident not only in her clinical practice, but also in the way she approaches the responsibilities and challenges of her supervisory role.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Lt. Eichler brings a positive and approachable attitude to the workplace. She is someone others can rely on for guidance, support, and mentorship. Congratulations to Cameron Schemlter on earning clearance to practice independently as a Paramedic with AMR - Greater Hartford/ Northeast, CT!

After successfully completing his field precepting and medical control ride, Cameron is now cleared to practice independently as a Paramedic with AMR Hartford. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to patient care have led to this exciting milestone.

Cameron received his certification from Daniel Skelly, EMS Manager for Trinity Health Of New England, and Jane Gordon, AMR Clinical Education Supervisor. We wish him continued success as he begins this next chapter in his EMS career.

Heat stroke is one of the most time-sensitive emergencies EMS clinicians encounter.

Recognizing severe heat illness early and initiating cooling before transport can dramatically improve outcomes. Remember: altered mental status in a heat-exposed patient is heat stroke until proven otherwise. Don't wait for a temperature—start cooling.
