Today, we honor the women who protect, guide, and support their families and communities with unwavering care. We also extend special appreciation to the mothers serving within our department and to the families who support those who wear the badge.

From all of us at the Police Department, we wish you a safe, peaceful, and Happy Mother’s Day. 💙

On Thursday, we had the privilege of witnessing our sister agency and close law enforcement partner, the Connecticut State Police K-9 Training Unit, receive a citation from the Connecticut State Senate.

This recognition is well deserved. The Connecticut State Police K-9 Training Unit has a long and proud history of excellence, innovation, and service, not only in Connecticut but also across the country and around the world.

For the Connecticut State Capitol Police, their impact is personal. They have assisted us in selecting, training, and developing our explosives detection K-9 teams, enhancing our ability to protect the State Capitol Complex, the legislative process, and everyone who works in or visits our buildings.

We are grateful for their partnership, professionalism, and the standard they continue to set in law enforcement K-9 training.

Congratulations to the Connecticut State Police K-9 Training Unit on this well-deserved recognition.

If you see some of our officers wearing jeans today, it’s Denim Day!

Denim Day is a fundraiser supporting the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence. We’re proud to take part in raising awareness and supporting survivors. 💙👖

Denim Day 2026 is Wednesday, April 29, 2026. It is a global campaign held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month where people wear jeans to protest victim-blaming and support survivors of sexual violence. Started in 1999, the movement encourages wearing denim to raise awareness and challenge misconceptions about consent.

We’d like to officially welcome K9 Chappy to SCPD! 🐾

Today, Chappy and Officer Bill Eastwood graduated after 14 weeks of training. Chappy passed with flying colors.
Our explosive detection K-9 Team is capable of searching for and locating military, tertiary, commercial, and improvised explosive devices within buildings, passenger and commercial motor vehicles, mass transit vehicles and venues, luggage, parcels, lockers, open areas, and persons.

Officer Eastwood also received the “Douglas Lancelot Outstanding Detection K-9 Handler Award.”

If you’re on campus and see this amazing team, be sure to stop and say hi!
