Myth or Fact?
❌ Myth: The minimum required auto insurance coverage protects you from every situation.
✔️ Fact: Minimum coverage may not fully protect you after a serious accident.

Connecticut's minimum auto insurance requirements are designed to meet state law, but they may not provide enough financial protection if you're involved in a serious crash.

Before purchasing or renewing your policy, consider whether higher liability limits may be appropriate for your needs. It's also important to understand that collision and comprehensive coverage are not required by law but can help cover damage to your own vehicle.

Talk with your insurance agent or advisor about your coverage options and what level of protection may be right for you.

At the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Spring Pre-Disaster Mitigation and Risk Modeling Working Group meeting, Kristin Fabian, Principal Examiner (Property & Casualty) at the Connecticut Insurance Department, collaborated with regulators from across the country on initiatives focused on disaster preparedness, resilience, and catastrophe risk analysis.

This working group helps Connecticut contribute to national efforts to strengthen pre-disaster mitigation standards, advance the use of catastrophe data and modeling, and share best practices with other states.

As severe weather risks continue to evolve, participation in this work ensures Connecticut remains engaged in multi-state collaboration on mitigation and resilience.

Myth or Fact?

✔️ Fact: Most homeowners and renters insurance policies generally cover fire damage, including wildfire-related damage, subject to policy terms, limits, and deductibles.

Wildfires and brush fires can spread quickly during dry and windy conditions. Understanding your coverage before an emergency happens can help you better prepare and recover.
