A message from the Chief of Police: Scam Alert

Please be advised that local police departments will never contact residents by phone to request payment for fines, services, or any other matter using Square, Venmo, or any other electronic payment method.

Additionally, law enforcement will never request payment by phone in exchange for the release of a loved one from jail.

We have received reports from residents who have been contacted by individuals attempting these scams. These calls are fraudulent.

Please remain vigilant and do not fall victim to these scams. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and report it.

The Ohio Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an overnight fire in Trumbull County.

We are saddened to hear about the loss of a local Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Trooper Cayton’s family, OSHP, and all who knew him.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton, of the Canfield Post, after he died as a result of being hit while in his cruiser by a semi-truck on state Route 11 south of U.S. 224 in Canfield, Ohio. Trooper Cayton was assisting a disabled commercial vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Today, the Patrol lost a member of our family. This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Public Safety”, said Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol Superintendent. “Our prayers go out to the Cayton family during this difficult time.”

The Apple Festivals Annual 5k Run will kick off at 9am today! Route 305 between Brockway Sharon (Stateline Road) and State Route 7 will be closed from 9am - 11am. Including Custer Orangeville Road entering 305.

We wish to thank everyone who participated in making yesterday’s Meet Your Neighbor Event a success. Additionally, we marked our 9th year with our Badges and Backpacks Program and we are grateful to have been able to contribute. We appreciate everyone who donates supplies and their time!
