Open Communities Alliance

Open Communities Alliance Open Communities Alliance is a civil rights organization that promotes access to opportunity through What is Opportunity? Inequality of Opportunity.

Where you live affects your access to resources like thriving schools, safe streets, and healthy food. Areas with an abundance of these and other resources are “high opportunity areas.” Areas that need more of these resources are “low opportunity areas.” Access to opportunity in Connecticut varies significantly depending on race and ethnicity. The Alliance is dedicated to bringing resources to low

er opportunity areas and linking to higher opportunity areas people who historically have not had access to them. Some racial and ethnic groups are much more likely to live in low opportunity areas: In Connecticut, 81% of Blacks and 79% of Latinos as compared to 25% of Whites and 44% of Asians. Open Communities Alliance works to ensure that opportunity is available on a equal basis to all people.

New Jersey is showing the way forward on affordable housing. Connecticut can get there, too.

"New Jersey’s landmark 2024 affordable housing law ... created a clear, transparent system to ensure every municipality plans for its fair share of affordable housing," Adam Gordon writes.

We can make sure that PA 25-1, passed in Connecticut in 2025, does the same.

Municipalities have broad flexibility in how they create new affordable homes.

The thing is, people are struggling. When people struggle, people worry. When people worry, they cannot focus on school or work.

Getting people's basic needs met is critical to maintaining the economic health of Connecticut in more ways than one.

There are many crises at this point in history and HOUSING is one of the BIGGEST 🏠.

Tell Governor Ned Lamont now is not the time to abandon our path toward a solution 🛣️.

Governor Ned Lamont Integrity is a virtue 🫡. Stay true to your word. Take up housing in a special session so that the good people of Connecticut don't need to continue to worry about having their basic needs met🏠🍲.
