Lake Country Community Pool Support

Lake Country Community Pool Support This page is to help inform/educate the Arrowhead High School Community about the state of the Community Pool located at AHS.

Along with providing options the community could agree on to fix and update the pool.

08/22/2024

I know this page has been a bit quiet, but we have been very hard at work.

STEP 1: was to get a new competition pool added to the referendum. ✅

STEP 2: provide a place to get information for the referendum, ways to volunteer, ways to donate and a way to stay connected to the Arrowhead district community. ✅ Please click the link or search for “Arrowhead Yes” and like, follow and share the page!

STEP 3: get out into the community to spread the word about this referendum and what it will mean for the future of the school. We are in need of volunteers that would like to take part in whatever capacity works for you (talking to your neighbors, hosting a social afternoon with those in your neighborhood, handing out fliers, helping to distribute yard signs, become a liaison with your feeder school, make a financial donation to help the efforts,… so many ways to contribute).

STEP 4: GO VOTE YES in November or earlier if you have a mail in ballot.

We have a community full of amazing people, let’s pull together and get this referendum to pass!!!

The need to build a new high school revolves around the safety and soundness of the students. By today's standards the school grounds, entrances, and roads are not safe. It is true that money can be spent on band aid solutions but, band aids are short lived, and you are always buying another box. Arrowhead High School is the heartbeat of our community, it is time to invest in our community!

At its meeting on July 10, the AHS School Board authorized 2 referendum questions to be placed on the November 5, 2024 ballot. One question will ask to approve a $1.9 million non-recurring operating referendum for the next 4 years, a second question will ask for $261.2 million to build a new high school on the AHS campus. The proposed new school will include: modern academic and student collaboration spaces; appropriately sized cafeteria, competition pool, and auditorium spaces; and an indoor space for academic and athletic co-curricular programming. The current school buildings are rapidly aging and lack these features. Click here for a press release including more details and school board member insights.

More information to come when we know what the next steps will be, but it will be critical we reach more people to share the information and vote accordingly!

COMING SOON!

AHS District survey will start hitting mailboxes the week of May 6th.

Survey responses will guide the AHS School Board on how to proceed with facilities planning, including whether or not AHS will continue to have a swimming pool.

Show your support for a pool on the survey! There will be many options available.

Please note: The $214.5 referendum option for a one building new school does NOT include any funding for the existing or new pool.

Did you know? ...
In 1993, school funding was locked, leaving Arrowhead High School (AHS) operating efficiently with low spending. However, this led to our funding lagging behind neighboring schools for over 30 years (see chart). 🤯

Back then, the state legislature limited school funding to each district's prior year expenditure level, tied to inflation until 2009. Unfortunately, state funding failed to keep pace with inflation, resulting in a substantial deficit.

Had the state maintained inflationary increases, AHS would have received an additional $3,380 per student, totaling over $6 million annually.

👎🏻 THE OUTCOME: Our outdated (unsafe) two-building system, cramped classrooms, a deteriorating pool, and inadequate performance spaces demand urgent action.

We are asking for your support on the survey coming soon. Not all the options listed include a pool, so be sure to read the entire survey and check the option for supporting a pool!

Did you know that the Arrowhead pool had diving boards for the highschool divers to train? 🤔 The depth standards changed and Arrowhead diving well depth is no longer within the guidelines.
For the past 6 years the divers have had to train at a different school which causes them to be separated from their swimmer teammates and miss out on that camaraderie of being together. This means they have to have transportation to and from the pool they train at which is added time on the road which increases safety concerns. That added travel time also takes away from their studies.
The bottom line is the pool is outdated and ready for a facelift. Please take the time to check ✅the box in support for a new pool. Let’s get this school back to par with its competitors!
