Greenburgh Central is one of the most diversified IB School Districts on the east coast, serving students from Pre-K through 12. We're located approximately 27 miles north of New York City with a total area of 6.2 square miles and a population of 22,528 residents with a median age of 46. The Falcons are back in action!

Fall sports are officially back at Woodlands! Our student-athletes returned to campus this week putting in the work at their first practices of the season and getting in gear for the competition ahead.

This week was not only an opportunity for team bonding and physical preparation. For our football and soccer teams, it was also their first chance to hit the brand new turf field that will be their home all season long.

Don't forget! Summer reading assignments are due September 14! 📚

In June, the district distributed one required summer reading book to all students entering grades PK–12, along with an assignment. Visit www.greenburghcsd.org/summerofreading to see each school's specific summer reading assignments by grade, along with many additional resources for your child(ren).

A look inside our schools before the first bell rings! 👀

This morning, members of the Greenburgh CSD Board of Education took part in their annual Facilities Walkthrough, touring each of our school buildings to see the current state of our facilities and the work taking place to prepare them for the new school year. They were joined by members of the public and families of new students getting to know our district for the first time.

Director of Facilities Dennis Pugliese accompanied the group throughout the walkthrough, answering questions and providing updates on projects currently underway across the district, including Phase One of the Woodlands Middle High School Science Lab project, which is scheduled for completion this fall.

The Facilities Walkthrough gives our school community an opportunity to see our buildings firsthand, ask questions and learn more about the ongoing work to ensure our schools are ready to welcome students back this September.

Welcome to the Falcon Family! 🦅

Sixteen new educators gathered at Woodlands Middle High School this week for New Teacher Orientation, an opportunity to get to know the district, its leaders and one another as they begin their journey in GCSD.

With district and building leaders on hand, the morning provided a comprehensive look at what makes Greenburgh CSD unique, from our goals and instructional priorities to our robust International Baccalaureate program, special education supports and the many people and resources who work together to support our students. Superintendent Dr. Lorenda Chisolm and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning Dr. Ogechi Iwuoha Njoku welcomed the group, joined by members of district leadership, school administrators, the Greenburgh Teachers Federation and other members of our school community.

After gaining a deeper understanding of the district’s programs, priorities and support systems, the group boarded a school bus to see Greenburgh for themselves! The new educators enjoyed a campus tour, visiting the Early Childhood Program main building, Lee F. Jackson Elementary, Highview Elementary and Richard J. Bailey Elementary before returning to Woodlands. Along the way, they explored the buildings, walked the halls and got their first look at the classrooms that will soon become their home away from home.

A new school year means new beginnings, and our newest educators are ready to hit the ground running. Welcome to Greenburgh! We can’t wait to see all that you’ll bring to our schools and students this year!

Join us TOMORROW, Wednesday, August 26, for our annual Facilities Walkthrough, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the lobby at Woodlands Middle High School!

See the improvements made this summer throughout district, and get an in-person look at the state of our buildings, ready to welcome students back to school on September 3 and 4!

🏆 Woodlands High School is among the best of the best!

Woodlands Senior High School has earned the No. 24 ranking among public high schools in New York State in U.S. News and World Report's 2026-27 Best High Schools rankings, making it the seventh-highest-ranked high school in the Hudson Valley. Even more impressively, Woodlands ranks No. 21 in New York State for college readiness.

U.S. News evaluates schools across six measures: college readiness, curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance and graduation rate. The methodology reflects a broad look at how schools prepare students for success, with college readiness carrying the greatest weight at 30%.

This recognition is a reflection of the dedication of our students, educators and families and the strength of the learning opportunities at Woodlands. Congratulations to the entire Woodlands community on this well-deserved recognition! 👏

✨ Your Greenburgh Central School District administrative team for the 2026-27 school year! ✨

Led by Superintendent Dr. Lorenda Chisolm, this team of assistant superintendents, directors, principals and assistant principals is looking ahead to the new school year with enthusiasm, purpose and a shared vision.

During today’s second and final day of the annual administrative retreat, GCSD leaders continued learning from one another and aligning their goals for the year ahead. Following presentations from Assistant Superintendent for Business Ms. Shonda Merrill, Executive Director of Human Resources Mr. Kevin Hanratty and Transportation Consultant Frank Gunn, the team worked collaboratively to plan for the year ahead and ensure district and building leaders are united in their commitment to the same collective vision.

With the first day of school just over two weeks away, the Greenburgh CSD administrative team is ready to get the 2026-27 school year off to a strong start!

💥Greenburgh administrators gathered today for the action-packed first day of their annual administrative retreat. Throughout the day, district and building leaders came together for professional development, team building and inspiration as they prepared for the 2026-27 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Lorenda Chisolm set the tone with her opening address, reminding the group that “leadership is an action, not a position.” With that message in mind, leaders kicked off the retreat with a team-building photo hunt that broke the ice, lifted spirits and got everyone smiling (and posing). From there, they engaged in thoughtful discussion and learning through presentations and activities led by Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning Dr. Ogechi Iwuoha Njoku; Director of Technology and Innovation Ms. Kelly Verdina; Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics Mr. Michael McCoy; Director of Special Education and PPS Ms. Audrey Cabbell and Director of Global Learning and Academic Excellence Dr. Nadim Farooqi.

Across each session, the team worked together to identify shared priorities and strengthen their collective focus for the year ahead. Covering topics ranging from data analysis, athletics and cybersecurity to special education and the IB curriculum, each conversation provided an opportunity for our leaders to collaborate, grow and soar together.

Today marks the final day of the 2026 Summer Bridge Program, and students at Richard J. Bailey Elementary closed out their summer with a wildly exciting visit from the Greenburgh Nature Center!

Environmental Educator Hayden brought along three special guests: 🐍 Tulip the python, 🐦 French Fry the dove and 🐹 Bama the guinea pig. Students learned about each animal before getting the chance to interact with them up close. Superintendent Dr. Chisolm and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning Dr. Njoku even stopped by to join in on the fun!

This special visit was the perfect way to cap off an incredible summer filled with learning, creativity, new experiences and plenty of fun. What a way to end Summer Bridge 2026! ☀️
