Hartsville Safe Communities Creating and Sustaining safe Communities

"Becoming a police officer is something I’ve always been interested in. I love the opportunity to represent the community and the people that we serve. Here in Hartsville, our officers are integrated into the community. We are baseball coaches, soccer coaches, and participate in school activities. People know each other. We have SROs at every school, and officers’ kids go there too.

Community safety is always our number one priority, and that starts with communication. We usually hear about things pretty quickly, sometimes even before it’s directly reported. People here look out for each other and each other’s kids and communicate with us anytime there’s an issue.

One of the things we pride ourselves in as a department is advanced training opportunities for our officers. Twenty years ago when I started, it was rare to receive any additional training. But today, we have two driving instructors certified by the state and we’re looking for two more, we have six fi****ms instructors, four victim advocates, a separate Community Outreach Division, SROs, patrol officers, criminal investigators, an officer attached to the DEA as a task force officer, and two officers with the combined narcotics unit with Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

We’re the premier agency here, and we always want to do better. Every day we want to figure out better ways to serve the community through education, leadership, and integrating ourselves into the community in different ways.

Our officers are the best of the best, and every day, they strive to be better.”

—Kyle Hause, Assistant Chief, Hartsville Police Department

Our Hartsville Police School Resource Officers had a wonderful time spending the afternoon with students and families at the Back to School Bash Extravaganza, presented by Malloy Law Firm, at Hartsville High School.

From enjoying hot dogs, chips, and drinks to catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones, it was the perfect way to get everyone excited for the school year ahead.

A big thank you to Gerald Malloy for putting together such a fun event. We can't wait to see everyone back in the classrooms and are looking forward to another fantastic school year!

This morning, the police department spent time at Starbucks for Coffee with a Cop, connecting with community members over coffee and conversation.

Officers also got a behind the scenes look at how drinks are made and even tried their hand at making coffee alongside the Starbucks team. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to chat, ask questions, and spend the morning with us!
