Looking for something fun to do during fall break next week! Don't forget we have a free zoo pass for the Mesker Park Zoo & Botanical Garden in Evansville, Indiana!

The pass is for free general admission for up to two adults and four children. It cannot be used by businesses, organizations, schools, or daycares.

Must have a valid library card with us to check out the pass. The pass must be checked out by an adult. ☺️

🚫BANNED BOOKS WEEK🚫

This is our last book in celebration of Banned Books Week. Today we have another popular book in a series by Sarah J. Mass. The book is Empire of Storms and it's the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series. It has been banned or challenged for several different reasons. It was challenged by school boards and parents because this book has mature romantic content. It has also been cited for profanity, obscenity, and LGBTQIA+ representation. This book was in the top 11 banned books of 2025.

Our final infographic breaks down the percentage of total titles targeted by organized campaigns. There was a total of 7, 884 total titles challenged/banned in 2025. 🔥

🔥BANNED BOOKS WEEK🔥

Our next book is Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. It was tied as the 5th most challenged book in 2025. It was actually banned statewide in South Carolina in May of 2025. Conservative groups and school boards have stated that the books sexual content, obscenities, and alternate sexualities as reasons for restricting access and banning the book.

The Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine has been heavily challenged or restricted because of its content. Many parents feel it is too frightening and violent for its age group. While others mentioned some of the stories feature occult themes. The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight was challenged citing themes of graphic violence, promotion of fear in children, and supernatural themes.
