We’ve got flow.

The pressure regulator decided it didn’t want to keep its adjustment so we went on the heavy side of things. Overshooting the drains up top, but a nice strong flow to the best friend bowl.

Great weather to be out with your companion!

****Update - 5/12/2026 - Boil order has been lifted****

Good afternoon - Staff has been working on a challenging main break and as such had to shut down an odd shape of water main in order to make the repairs. With that said, there is a boil order for the below area. Some people may have already gotten flyers, but the repair is complete and the sample has been sent out.

We appreciate your patience.

Hear ye, hear ye, bring out yer brush!

Next Monday, May 11th, we begin the first brush collection for 2026.

I always have the staff drive the complete City, including all side streets and dead-ends, so if it is out, it will be collected. If you wait until you see us pass, or got woke up by the chipper at the neighbor's house, you will have to wait until July 6th, so here's your warning!

To be sure your brush is removed, please have all branches by the curb before pickup begins, but no earlier than one week ahead of time. The longer the better when it comes to branch length. Please stack branches with the cut end to the street. Stumps, bushes, plants, leaves or weeds will not be picked up by the City. The time limit for brush piles is 20 minutes. After 20 minutes the resident is charged $125.00 an hour with a minimum charge of $50.00.

Recently, some friends over at the McHenry Landmark Commission did a neat post about these Lustron kit homes.

The Lustron homes were made post WW2, when the demand for housing was high, and they were made out of steel frames with porcelain finished panels, designed to last a lifetime.

The McHenry Landmark Commission did a great history you can read in the attached post in detail.

Why am I sharing this?

If you’ve lived in Harvard for any time at all, you may notice that we have at least a couple Lustron homes still perched amongst the houses in Harvard. While you may have never given these a second thought, the next time you see one, know the cool story about how they came to be.

If any of you love Oaks as much as I do, coming up here is a great chance to be a part of planting the next generation!

Thanks in part to a grant from the ComEd Green Region in partnership with Openlands, on May 2nd @ 10 AM members of the Tree Board as well as some Tree Professionals will be on site at the Harvard Diggins Library to plant 15 oak trees and a mix of natural prairie seed. Why is this important? We have an incredible old-growth oak forest just steps away, and this is helping to foster the next generation! You could be a part of this!

All you need to do is let us know if you will be there! Click this link to register -

Depending on how many people register, we may end up planting some Tulip Trees along the park path to really spread the impact. Let's hope we do!

📢Don't forget, today we will be testing tornado sirens starting at 10 AM. This will occur at each site, throughout the day as they are energized manually. 📢

Heads up!

Wednesday, April 1st, we will be testing the various tornado sirens throughout the City, starting at 10 AM - Weather dependent.

A public safety siren company reached out to the City after learning about our situation and have some ideas to get the sirens going again without the risk of being hacked and falsely activated. In order to see what it would cost to have them active again, we will have to see which ones work and what they might need. We will be manually operating each siren starting at 10 AM, traveling to each site throughout the day. I am sure this will raise some eyebrows, so please share this with anyone who might not have social media.
