Twenty-five years later, we remember. 🇺🇸

The Harvard Fire Protection District joins our community and fire service family in honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember their courage, their service and the countless acts of selflessness that followed on one of our nation’s darkest days. Their legacy remains with us 25 years later, and we will never forget.

Training never stops.

Our firefighters spent the evening honing their vehicle extrication and stabilization skills during a hands on training exercise. Several of our newest members had the opportunity to perform their first vehicle extrication with us, gaining valuable experience alongside seasoned firefighters.

Regular training like this helps ensure our crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively when lives are on the line.

On Tuesday evening, the Harvard Fire Protection District responded to a reported house fire in the 700 block of North Division Street.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the home. All three occupants and three dogs safely escaped without injury after being alerted by working smoke detectors. Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire, which was contained to the kitchen within approximately 15 minutes. Although the fire did not spread beyond the kitchen, heavy smoke damage throughout the home left it uninhabitable. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

This incident serves as an important reminder that working smoke detectors save lives by providing valuable early warning. Test your smoke detectors monthly and ensure they are functioning properly.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. We appreciate the assistance of our mutual aid fire departments, the Harvard Police Department, and the dispatchers who assisted throughout the incident.
