Plenty of warning being given ahead of time. Monday looks to be pretty active. Please stay prepared and aware!
We have a risk of dangerous tornadoes on Monday. The area highlighted on this map is from the Storm Prediction Center. They mentioned "strong to intense tornadoes". This wording from these folks is actually scary stuff. These are the same folks who think "moderate risk" is an outbreak and that terms like "considerable" fits the situation for 70MPH winds and hail the size of a golf ball. So when these super nerds say "intense" or "strong", they don't mean "a tornado". They mean "big tornadoes that can hurt people". Do this for me please. On Monday from 3PM until Midnight.. pay attention to the weather. Watch me if you will on Monday. But if you don't like suspenders or whatever, make sure you have a way to get warnings. There are more than a dozen days a year where "a tornado might occur". There are less than 5 days a year where "strong/intense" tornadoes may occur for any particular location. Monday has the potential to be a really bad day for tornadoes. How bad could Monday be for northeast Kansas? I am sitting here writing a post on a Saturday afternoon when I usually am fully zoned out from the office for a bit. If there is day of the week where I fully disconnect from the office, it's Saturday. Today I need to ask you to pay attention on Monday. It may storm tonight. It may storm Sunday night. Northeast Kansas needs to pay attention on Monday afternoon and evening for dangerous weather, please. The suspenders are ready. Red tie. Monday, May 18 2026. A date I hope we don't remember later.
