At just after Noon on Friday, we responded to standby at a Lifestar Helicopter landing. The Ambulance had responded to a patient who had fallen from a house roof and was unconscious. The Helicopter landed at the Fairgrounds on Locust Road.

Open burning season in Harwinton is closed until October 1st. And a reminder that small, contained, “backyard” fires do not require a permit and can go on.

At about 3:00 PM Sunday, Lifestar Helicopter landed in the All Star bus company lot at the old Johnnycake airport. The Ambulance had a patient who suffered a head injury in a fall and was flown to Hartford Hospital.

The Forest Fire Danger Level for Sunday, May 31, 2026 is MODERATE . Open burning is permitted today. A reminder that this is the final day of the open burning season in Harwinton. The issuing of burning permits will resume on October 1st.

The Forest Fire Danger Level for Saturday, May 30, 2026 is MODERATE
All counties Moderate. Open burning is permitted today. Also, a reminder that tomorrow (Sunday, May 31st) is the last day you can burn brush with a permit, the open burning season in Harwinton closes. Other towns may differ, so check with your town’s Open Burning Official. Issuing of permits to burn will resume on October 1st.

After several dreary days, it cleared off in time for the parade! The parade and ceremony have concluded and all roads are back open to normal traffic.

HARWINTON MEMORIAL DAY PARADE IS STILL SCHEDULED TO STEP OFF AT 2:00 PM from the Fairgrounds. The following are the road closures. The Harwinton Resident Trooper will be assisted by our Fire Police to direct traffic.

ROUTE 4 (Burlington & Litchfield Road) will be closed starting at 2:00 PM until the conclusion of the ceremony on the green between the traffic light at the Route 118 intersection and the Harmony Hill/ Locust Road intersection. Detour will be Leadmine Brook Road and Harmony Hill Road. Detour signs will be posted. Also, there will be no access to Route 4 from North Road during this time, otherwise North Road will be open to normal traffic.

LOCUST ROAD will be closed from Route 4 to Bull Road starting at 2:00 PM until the parade passes onto Bull Road at which point it will reopen to normal traffic.

BULL ROAD will be closed in it’s entirety between Locust Road and South Road starting at 2:00 PM until the parade passes onto South Road at which point it will reopen to normal traffic.

SOUTH ROAD will be closed between Bull Road and Route 4 starting at approximately 1:30 PM until the conclusion of the ceremony on the green. Use Bull Road to Locust for a detour.
