June is Pride Month. 🌈

To our LGBT community members, neighbors, friends, family members, coworkers, and visitors: we see you, we value you, and we’re glad you’re here.

At the end of the day, Harwood Heights is home to people from all different backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life. That’s what makes a community special. It’s not our differences that bring us together. It’s the fact that we’re all neighbors.

Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or just arrived yesterday, you deserve to feel safe, respected, accepted, and welcome.

This month, and every month, we’re proud to serve a community where everyone belongs.

Happy Pride Month, Harwood Heights. ❤️🌈

I don’t wear a badge,
but I still answer the call.

I don’t drive the squad,
but I still show up when heroes fall.

I carry no sirens,
yet people stop and watch me pass.

I carry a blue line flag,
yet it’s not the flag that feels heavy.

What am I?

Last night was a good night at the Harwood Heights Police Department.

We had the honor of promoting Detective Cionzynski to the rank of Detective Sergeant, and seeing the room filled with family, friends, coworkers, and retired members of our department made the occasion even more special.

He joined HHPD in 2016 as a patrol officer before moving to the Detective Division in 2018, where he has spent the last several years working cases, helping victims, following leads, and doing the kind of work that often happens behind the scenes.

The promotion was certainly the highlight of the night, but seeing the room filled with family, friends, coworkers, and retirees made it even more meaningful. That says a lot about the person he is and the respect he has earned throughout his career.

Promotions are about more than a new rank. They’re about years of hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to serving the community.

Congratulations, Detective Sergeant Cionzynski. We are proud of you and look forward to seeing what you’ll accomplish in this new role.

Please help us congratulate him in the comments! 👏🎉

Some heroes wear capes. Some wear uniforms. And some lace up their running shoes and carry the memory of fallen officers one mile at a time.

Recently, Running 4 Heroes honored fallen Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew with a memorial run. This incredible organization was started by a young boy with one mission: make sure our fallen heroes are never forgotten. Since then, it’s grown into a nationwide movement supporting first responders and their families.

To see young people stepping up to honor Officer Bartholomew’s (and all fallen officers and K9s) sacrifice is something that hits hard for the law enforcement community. It’s a reminder that even in heartbreak, there are still people raising the next generation to respect service, sacrifice, and the meaning of wearing the badge.

Thank you, Running 4 Heroes, for keeping Officer Bartholomew’s name and legacy moving forward one mile at a time. 💙

If you haven’t heard of them before, take a minute to check them out and the amazing work they do for first responders and their families.

Memorial Day weekend may be over, but the message still stands: buckle up.

During the Harwood Heights Police Department’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign, our officers worked extra patrol hours focused on seat belt enforcement and roadway safety. In just 47 hours, officers conducted 68 traffic stops, cited 46 seat belt violations, and addressed distracted driving violations as well.

Seat belts save lives. It takes two seconds to click it. 🚔💙

This one hits hard.

A 2 year old should never be able to get to a loaded gun. Ever. And yet here we are again. Another family destroyed because a firearm was left unsecured.

If you own a firearm, locking it up is part of the responsibility that comes with it. Not “hiding it.” Not “putting it up high.” Actually securing it.

Kids are curious.
Kids are fast.
And tragedy happens in seconds.

Please:
• Lock your fi****ms in a safe or lock box
• Use a trigger lock or cable lock
• Keep ammunition stored separately when possible
• Never leave a gun unsecured in a vehicle, bag, nightstand, or under a mattress
• Make sure every adult in the home knows the rules too

This isn’t political. This isn’t anti gun. This is about making sure your child makes it to tomorrow.

One careless moment can change lives forever. Please lock them up.

A man is in custody after Chicago police said a two-year-old boy got a hold of a gun and fatally shot himself Sunday.

Harwood Heights…we’ve been keeping this one quiet for a little bit. 👀🇺🇸

This is our brand new commemorative patch for America’s 250th birthday and you’ll start seeing our officers wearing them on their uniforms soon.

But here’s the fun part…

We decided to make a limited number available for the community too. Because honestly, this patch is just too cool not to share. 🇺🇸🔥

They are $10 each, cash only, and available for in person purchase only at the police department starting…now!

And fair warning now…once they’re gone, they’re gone. We only have a limited amount and we already know these are going to go fast.

Whether you collect patches, love Harwood Heights, or just want a piece of this 250 year milestone, don’t miss out on these
