National Teen Driver Safety Week October 15th-21st, 2023

The Harwood Heights Police Department would like to remind all you parents out there that — as a parent — you are one of the biggest influences on your teen’s choices behind the wheel. Make safe choices while you’re driving — don’t drive impaired or distracted, don’t speed, wear a seat belt…and encourage your teen to do the same! It will make them a safer driver.

October is Crime Prevention Month!

This observance is meant to raise awareness about the importance of taking steps to prevent crime in our communities. Crime prevention encompasses a wide range of topics, including home security, personal safety, and cyber safety.

One of the most important steps you can take to prevent crime is to be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.

By taking proactive steps to prevent crime, everyone can help create a safer and more secure community. So, let's use Crime Prevention Month as an opportunity to educate ourselves and our loved ones about the importance of staying vigilant and taking steps to protect ourselves from crime. 🚔

As a Harwood Heights resident, you are eligible to sign up for Smart911, a free innovative public safety service that allows individuals and families to create a profile containing vital information that is provided to 9-1-1 dispatchers in the event of an emergency.
When an emergency call comes in, dispatchers and first responders are tasked with responding as swiftly as possible. The more information they have, the better and quicker an emergency response will be.

Residents can sign up for Smart911 at www.smart911.com or on the Smart911 App available on the Apple Store or Google Play. It’s private and secure, and you control what information is in your profile.

If you would like to receive additional information about this free service, please speak with a representative from the Municipal Consolidated Dispatch Center this weekend at their booth during the Village of Harwood Heights Carnival and Summer Fest at the St. Rosalie’s Church grounds located at 6750 W. Montrose Ave.
