Public health is the science of improving the health of the community through a broad range of services that are offered through the Health Department. The goal that we strive for is to coordinate and assure the protection and promotion of good health, well-being and the quality of life for all the residents in our community. The Hasbrouck Heights Board of Health is an autonomous board, which cons
ists of six citizen members, and two alternate members who are appointed by the Mayor and Council of the Borough. The Board of Health is a policy making Board which as mandated under state law Title 26, is charged with the duty of ensuring that mandated public health services are carried out in Hasbrouck Heights. The term of appointment for each board member is three years. The Board of Health meets the second Wednesday of the month, except July and August, to review the activities of the health Department. The meetings are open to the public. The Board monitors the activities of the part-time environmental health inspector and health officer who are supplied by contract through Mid-Bergen Regional Health Commission. Health inspections for the community are carried out by an Environmental Health Specialist, who works for the Health Department under the direction of the health officer. The secretary of the Board of Health is an employee of the town and is the liaison between the Health Department and the Board of Health. The secretary is also the Registrar of Vital Statistics for the community. The Board of Health meets regularly on the second Wednesday of the month under the Sunshine Law as an open public meeting. The public is encouraged to attend. Health Department:
