Dakota County Government A premier county to live and work. Founded in 1849, ​Dakota County is 587 square miles in area and has a population of approximately 400,000.

The mission of the Dakota County government is to provide efficient, effective, responsive government that achieves the Board of Commissioners' vision for Dakota County: a premier place in which to live and work. Situated in the southeast corner of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, it is the third most populous county in the state of Minnesota. The County seat was first established in Kaposia in

1853, moved to Mendota in 1854, and moved again to Hastings in 1857, where it currently resides. Our page policy:

Join Dakota County and their consultant KLJ Engineering for their next Public Open House. Stop by to learn more about the Lebanon Hills Greenway project and share your input on:

As Mental Health Month comes to a close, Dakota County encourages individuals to continue making mental health a priority year-round. Whether you’re looking for support for yourself, a loved one or you simply want to learn more, help and resources are available.
Dakota County offers a variety of mental health resources for individuals of all ages, including crisis support, treatment services and community-based programs.
If you or someone you know needs help, call the Dakota County Crisis Response Unit at 952-891-7171. This unit is open 24-hours a day and provides phone and face-to-face crisis intervention and consultation.

Dakota County celebrated the opening of the new Lebanon Hills Maintenance Facility and greenhouse on May 21.
