🚨 Reminder: E-Scooter, E-Bike, one-wheel, & Hoverboard Rules in Hastings 🚨

To help keep everyone safe, here are some important rules from City Code Sec. 50-704:

🛑 You CANNOT ride:
• On roads posted over 25 MPH
• On 2nd Street from Burlington Ave. to Minnesota Ave.
• On sidewalks in the downtown business district

✅ You MAY:
• Cross restricted roads at marked intersections
• Use hike & bike trails unless signs say otherwise
• Walk your scooter/bike on downtown sidewalks

⚠️ Riders must:
• Obey traffic signals and signs
• Use hand signals when turning
• Yield to pedestrians on sidewalks and trails
• Give an audible warning before passing pedestrians
• Ride single file when in groups of 3 or more

🌙 Night riding requires:
• White front light visible 500 feet
• Rear red reflector or red light

👮 Violations can result in fines:
• 1st offense: up to $50
• 2nd offense: $50–$100
• 3rd offense and beyond: $150

Police may also impound scooters, e-bikes or hoverboards for violations.

☀️🍎 USDA Summer Food Service Program
This summer, the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program is providing no-cost meals for children ages 1–18 at approved locations across the state. Families can use the SFSP Site Finder to locate additional summer meal sites near them.

Big news for Hastings Public Schools:
The HPS Board of Education is proud to announce that John Hauser has been named superintendent of Hastings Public Schools.

Mr. Hauser has been part of our HPS family for four years, first as principal of Hawthorne Elementary and most recently as Director of Learning and Support. He is a dedicated leader who knows our students, values our staff and is deeply committed to our community.

New math problem unlocked! Maximum effort + 5 point increase = 1 water balloon to throw at your math teacher. Mrs. Neujahr awarded her 7A students for their hard work on their NSCAS Math by letting them throw one water balloon for every five points they raised their score from the winter to the spring. A total of 93 water balloons were thrown at her!
