The Town and Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) will be hosting an information session about Hatfield's ditches and drainage systems and how best to maintain them in the future. This issue affect many farmers and residents across town, and we look forward to seeing you there to learn about the ditch mapping and inventory project that has been taking place over the last year. The open house will be in Smith Academy Park next to Town Hall at 59 Main Street on Tuesday, June 30th from 6-8pm. Free refreshments from Ice Cream Emergency will be provided. Come by anytime to learn more on June 30th, and we will share more information on our website after the meeting as well.

Hatfield is currently under a Level 2 Significant Drought due to two years of below-average rainfall and declining streamflow and groundwater across the region. The Town is instituting a voluntary water ban and we ask that all residents make efforts to limit water use. Make sure to fix any indoor leaks such as from toilets, faucets, and showers, which result in more than 60 percent of indoor use. As possible, restrict home lawn and gardening to hand watering that takes place before 9am or after 5pm. While this notice primarily applies to those using town water, rather than private wells, we appreciate everyone’s efforts to conserve water during this extended drought.
