On December 18th at approximately 4:30 PM, Station Hatteras Inlet received a distress call on Channel 16 from the recreational vessel Roe Boat with a length of only 21ft, reporting an engine failure.

The vessel was located northeast of Diamond Shoals, about 40 nautical miles from the station.

A Good Samaritan initially took the vessel in tow, but as weather conditions worsened, the operator realized it was too challenging to continue, and proceeded to drop the tow and leave the disabled vessel on their own .

Within 12 minutes, Station Hatteras Inlet's crew launched the 47 MLB to assist. Upon arriving on scene the crew of the 47 noted 5-6ft seas and 20 kts of wind. The two individuals were safely towed around diamond shoals and arrived at Village Marina boat ramp around 1130 pm. The mariners were then able to remove their vessel from the water and arrange for repairs.

Stay safe, everyone, and have a happy holiday season.

The past few days at Station Hatteras Inlet have been incredibly busy, but filled with great moments!

First, congratulations to MK3 Owens on his well-deserved promotion to MK2! Your dedication and hard work have truly paid off!

We also celebrated our annual Christmas party, where the crew, friends, and family gathered for a fun time together. It was a special opportunity to recognize and thank everyone for their ongoing support, which helps keep us all moving forward. A well-earned celebration after another year of hard work!

The next day, we had the privilege of releasing 117 rehabilitated sea turtles back into the Gulf Stream, giving them a second chance at life.

Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season!

A few weeks ago…around the station. During their tour, they learned about the entire search and rescue process. The lesson began in the watch room where they were given a mock case and had to obtain the information needed to begin to launch a boat, then they went to the Wet Rooms and learned about the personal protective equipment the coasties wear to shield them from the elements. Following the wet room, they boarded the stations Motor Life Boats and were taught about all the systems that make the rescues we do possible. Finally, they disembarked the boats and began learning how to throw heaving lines. The station was overjoyed and honored to host such a great class and look forward to more opportunities to come. Bravo Zulu, Ocracoke Middle School! 🇺🇸

Highlight of the week! 🚁

These 3 members from Station Hatteras Inlet went to Air Station Elizabeth City for an opportunity to explore different ratings in the Coast Guard. This is not only a great experience, but also one of the ways the Coast Guard differs from other branches. We let our people shadow different jobs before they choose their rate!

They lived a day in the life of a Coast Guard airman, got to tour the hangar, and even took to the sky’s on one of the Air Stations MH-60 Jayhawks.

Thank you and Bravo Zulu to Air Station Elizabeth City for allowing them this unique opportunity. 🇺🇸
