Today, Central Lamar Fire & Rescue and Northeast Lamar Fire & Rescue had the opportunity to visit Crestwood School of Hattiesburg, where K–5th grade students have been learning about community heroes. We were able to share what it means to be a firefighter and talk about the importance of fire safety and education. Today, Central Lamar responded to a woods fire. Not only were they able to quickly extinguish the flames and protect nearby structures, but they also rescued a baby bunny that was trapped in the path of the fire. After snapping a few quick photos, they located what appeared to be the mother and safely released the little one nearby. At Central Lamar, we respond with a commitment to preserving and protecting all life—great and small.

There's more to being a volunteer than just running towards fires. You can do other things to help as well.

On February 21st, Central Lamar and neighboring departments responded to a fire on J M Burge Rd. Thanks to the firefighters’ quick response, the blaze was contained with minimal damage to the dwelling. This incident serves as a reminder—never underestimate the power of a pressurized water extinguisher aka water can. A well placed stream of water at the right time can stop a fire before it gets out of hand.

Special thank you to all the responding units from the various departments.
